במענה על מכתבו מח' ניסן, בו שואל אם האמת כדברי האומר בענין זיווגים שצריך להתאים וכו' וכן בהנוגע למה שאומרים אודות חכמת היד שרטוטי היד, ואם כל הנ"ל סותר להציווי תמים תהיה עם ה' אלקיך.
התאמת הזיווגים וחכמת היד, מדובר אודותם בספרי קבלה ופנימיות התורה, ולאיזה מהן מצוין בשולי הגליון*, ומזה מובן שאין זה היפך הציווי דתמים תהיה עם ה' אלקיך, ועל דרך עניני שמירת הגוף והנפש, עניני רפואה וסגולות בדוקות וכיו"ב, ויעוין גם כן בשולחן ערוך יורה דיעה סי' קע"ט כמה פרטים בהנ"ל.
אבל במה דברים אמורים כשיודעים הענינים הנ"ל על בורים, שרשי הנשמות שרטוטי היד וכו' אבל מי שאין לו בזה ידיעה ברורה, [שבדורנו זה יכולה להיות רק על ידי קבלה מפי רב ולא מדעת עצמו], כמובן גם על זה נאמר רבים חללים הפילה, מי שלא הגיע להוראה ומורה, ותמה אני אם יש בדורנו זה מי שיאמר ויפרסם שבקי הוא בענינים אלו**.
תקותי שקובע הוא עתים בלימוד תורת החסידות פנימיות התורה, וכלך מעניני קבלה מעשית ואביזרייהו, וכמפורסם האזהרה שבזה בכמה ספרים הקדושים.

In response to your letter from the 8th of Nisan, in which you ask whether it is true what is said regarding matches in marriage—that there must be compatibility, etc.—and also regarding what is said about palmistry (the lines of the hand), and whether all this contradicts the commandment 'Tamim Tihyeh Im Hashem Elokecha' (Be wholehearted with the L‑rd your G‑d).
The compatibility of matches and palmistry are discussed in books of Kabbalah and the inner dimension of Torah, with references noted in the margin*, and from this it is understood that this does not contradict the commandment 'Tamim Tihyeh Im Hashem Elokecha' (Be wholehearted with the L‑rd your G‑d), similar to matters of guarding one's body and soul, matters of medicine, proven segulos (remedies), and similar things. See also Shulchan Aruch Yoreh Deah section 179 for further details on these subjects.
However, this applies only when one truly knows these matters—the roots of souls, lines of the hand, etc.—but someone who does not have clear knowledge in this [which in our generation can only come through receiving from a teacher and not by one's own understanding], obviously regarding this it is said 'Rabbim Chalalim Hipilah' (Many corpses has she caused to fall), referring to one who has not reached the level to instruct but instructs anyway. I wonder if there is anyone in our generation who would claim and publicize that he is an expert in these matters**.
My hope is that you set aside fixed times for studying Chassidus—the inner dimension of Torah—and distance yourself from practical Kabbalah and its offshoots, as is well known from warnings about this found in several holy books.
