במענה על מכתבו מאדר"ח אלול.
מובן שצודק הוא במה שכותב שלימוד פנימיות התורה הכנה לביאת המשיח וגאולה השלימה, וכידוע מענה דמלכא משיחא להבעש"ט, דאתי לכשיפוצו מעינותיך חוצה, אבל אנו אין לנו אלא מעינות הבעש"ט רבנו הזקן תל' ותלמידי תלמידיהם, וכידוע שבלימוד פנימיות התורה צריך להיות בקבלה רב מפי רב, וכמו שהאריך בזה האריז"ל ותלמידו הרח"ו, יעוין שם דברים מבהילים בזה.
אינו כותב מסדר לימודיו בתורת הנגלה ובתורת החסידות.
וכוונתי תורת החסידות הוא להנ"ל מעינות הבעש"ט וכו' ובטח ימלא בהזדמנות הבאה.
בטח יודע משלשת השיעורים בחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים, וישמור עליהם עכ"פ מכאן ולהבא.

In response to your letter from before Rosh Chodesh Elul.
It is understood that you are correct in what you write: that studying the inner dimension of Torah is a preparation for the coming of Moshiach and the complete redemption. As is known from the answer of Melech HaMoshiach to the Baal Shem Tov, that he will come when "your wellsprings spread outward." However, for us, our only wellsprings are those of the Baal Shem Tov, our Rebbe the Alter Rebbe, their students and their students' students. It is also known that when learning the inner dimension of Torah it must be received directly from teacher to student, as was elaborated by the Arizal and his student Rav Chaim Vital—see there for their striking words on this topic.
You do not write your schedule of study in Nigleh (the revealed part of Torah) and in Chassidus. By "Chassidus" I mean as above—the wellsprings of the Baal Shem Tov etc.—and I am sure you will provide this information on another occasion.
You surely know about the three well-known daily study portions in Chumash, Tehillim, and Tanya; at least from now on you should be careful to keep them.
