In response to your letter from the 21st of Menachem Av, I am surprised that you do not mention anything about your involvement in Torah and mitzvot at this time. Especially considering what we discussed—that specifically during the days called 'vacation days' in common language, one should increase in Torah study and in meticulous observance of mitzvot. This is because during these times, many of the distractions present throughout the year are absent. There is also an additional reason for those with certain character traits: precisely in these days when there is no obligation by yeshivah rules to study Torah for a set number of hours each day, it demonstrates that with good will and without external command, one adds much more to this number.

Especially since you must now serve as a living example in your environment of what it means to be a yeshivah student in general and a Tomchei Temimim student in particular—so that others will see and do likewise, as explained by our Sages in many places.

In connection with your birthday, when one's mazal is strengthened and wisdom is increased—as it says, 'And many years will teach wisdom'—certainly you will reflect on all the above (and more), and add to it. May Hashem grant you success for a good and blessed year in Torah study and mitzvah observance.
