Shalom u'Vrachah!

After the longest break, your letter was received, and thank you for the good news about your improved health. Regarding what you wrote about the farbrengens, that even with physical eyes one can see fruits, these are incomparable to the true fruits, even though the yetzer confuses with various schemes, including casting doubt as to whether there is any benefit in farbrengens—as explained at length in Chassidic discourses and talks.

Regarding what you wrote about your treating doctor's words concerning your health and how your work is difficult for you—especially when you are also involved in Chabad matters—and therefore he fears you will have to reduce this involvement: It is surprising that apparently you do not feel the doubled and redoubled darkness of exile—even when it is pointed out explicitly; not only that, but you come to conclusions opposite of what should be, which also contradict healthy logic. If you would contemplate what I wrote to you in my letters... and read them upon receiving my letter without the bias of an improper will, you would then see that this matter is not appropriate for you at this time. But since my words were not accepted, a doctor came and told you similarly—only in sharper terms—and it is understood that he attributed it to the body and not to the soul. Not only did this not help either, but after asking forgiveness—your conclusion was opposite of these intentions: namely, that even your previous participation in Chabad matters should be abandoned just to maintain involvement in... I do not know if further words will help after it has been shown and continues to be shown explicitly what one should be involved with. May it be G‑d's will that very soon, with kindness and mercy, you begin fulfilling your true role where you are now—which was meant for you immediately upon your arrival there—and all other matters are secondary. Do this with joy and gladness of heart because finally one has grasped what is truly meant. Of course I am aware of the issue of material livelihood as well; but Yeshivah... can support both you and your family honorably. Moreover, it will bring much more benefit than any salary received elsewhere. If only this had been done two or three years ago—when your physical health was better and your environment healthier spiritually—and all depends only on your will.

Blessings for good news in all mentioned above.

P.S. It is possible that since this is a worldly matter (milin d'alma), several wise businessmen among Anash may try to explain to you that my aforementioned view does not seem correct to them—that "it isn't proper for laymen," etc.—and with your permission explain to them also in my name: My real opinion is that all Anash who came from Russia... should earn their living honestly by working in Yeshivah... (since anyway their sustenance comes through the merit of the Yeshivah; but by insisting on clothing their livelihood specifically in material garments—through business dealings in markets and streets with great distraction—it adds more concealments and obstacles because the influence must descend through many levels; furthermore, unwanted waste is added—such as unnecessary expenses like doctors' fees etc., G‑d forbid). If only they would now choose livelihood as described above—with minimal concealments—which would provide for their needs and those of their families—even their material needs—with much satisfaction and certainly less distraction; moreover they would invest their knowledge, strength, and energy into true matters. There is no need to elaborate on something so obvious; but unfortunately everyone understands when reading such things in a book or when explained regarding someone else—but when it comes to themselves all discussion becomes meaningless—and that's enough said.

It is clear there is no element here of resentment etc.; rather it really is time already to recognize the truth—even if it were just lying on the table—and certainly when it stands out clearly as above.

Blessings for good news.

Summary
