Today your letter was delivered to me — with what was enclosed with it — dated at the end of Menachem Av, and it is somewhat surprising that it took so long.

I was pleased to see in it the way you write about your family lineage, for I am confident that the words of your letter come from the heart. Then surely there is also the added quality — added by the power of ancestral tradition — in practical life as well, for the heart is the king of the limbs. And since the Jewish people are גומלי חסדים, "doers of kindness" (Yevamos 79a), and look generously upon what is another's, this surely influences others in this direction too.

Following up on what you write, that your grandfather was of the study hall of the Rebbe, the Tzemach Tzedek, I would be interested to know whether any notes or writings of Chassidic teaching that have not yet been printed remain from him; and if so, whether there is a list of them that it would be possible to see. Thank you in advance for your trouble in this.

Surely you meet from time to time with our fellow Chassidim (Anash) of Tel Aviv, and visit the Chabad institutions in the Holy Land, may it be built and established, especially the Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim and Kfar Chabad. And the general rule was laid down by our Sages: זרוק חוטרא אאוירא אעיקרי' קאי, "Throw a stick into the air, and it lands on its root" (Bereishis Rabbah, end of ch. 53).

With blessing to see true nachas, that is, Jewish nachas, from all your offspring, may they live, befitting the stock from which they were hewn, in whom they will take pride.
