בעתו קבלתי הידיעה הראשונה ואח"כ הבשורה טובה אשר נתוח של זוגתו תחי' מרת ... עלה בסדר ובהצלחה, ויה"ר מהשי"ת הרופא כל בשר ומפליא לעשות אשר תחזור לאיתנה בקרוב ומכאן ואילך אך טוב וחסד יבשר תכה"י.
וכבר ידוע הפירוש במאמר רז"ל כל שנה שהיא רשה בתחלתה מתעשרת בסופה, שהחילוק הוא מקודם התקיעות והתפלות, ולאחריהם, כי מקודם להם עדיין נמצאים בדין ומשפט וע"י התקיעות והתפלות פועלים אשר הקב"ה עומד מכסא דין ויושב על כסא רחמים, וכל בני ישראל ועמך כולם צדיקים נכתבים ונחתמים לאלתר בספרן של צדיקים. ובמשך השנה הנה כל יומא ויומא עביד עבידתי' לעשות כלים להמשכת וקבלת הטוב שנפסק לו בר"ה, אשר כלים אליו הם עניני תורה ומצות ואחד מהם השפעה על הזולת, ובפרט מי שחננו השי"ת לכשרון לחנך, שינצל את כל האפשריות במילואה להעמיד תלמידים יר"ש לומדי תורה ומקיימי מצות, וזכות הרבים מסייעתו וממשכת רוב ברכה והצלחה בהנוגע לו ולכל ב"ב שיחיו.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
In due time I received the first report and afterwards the good news that the surgery of your wife, Mrs. ..., was successful and went smoothly. May it be the will of Hashem, Who heals all flesh and performs wonders, that she returns to her strength soon and from now on you will only hear good tidings.
It is already known the explanation of our Sages' saying: "Any year that begins poor ends up rich," that the difference is before the shofar blowing and prayers versus after them. Before these, we are still in judgment; through the shofar and prayers we effect that Hashem rises from the throne of judgment and sits on the throne of mercy, and all Israel—Your people are all righteous—are written and sealed immediately in the book of the righteous.
And throughout the year, each day has its task: to make vessels for drawing down and receiving the goodness decreed on Rosh Hashanah. These vessels are matters of Torah and mitzvos; one of them is influencing others. Especially someone whom Hashem has granted talent for education should utilize every opportunity to raise students who fear Heaven, study Torah, and observe mitzvos. The merit of the many helps him and draws great blessing and success for him and his entire family.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that prayer transforms judgment into mercy at year's start. By dedicating ourselves to Torah, mitzvos, and positively influencing others—especially through education—we create vessels for G‑d's blessings throughout the year.
