על ידי הרה"ח אי"א נו"נ עוסק בצ"צ מוה"ר בן ציון שי' שם טוב שד"ר, קבלתי ידיעה בהנוגע למצב בריאותו, ותקותי חזקה אשר הכל הי' בסדר ובהצלחה ויבשרני טוב בזה. ובודאי למותר לעוררו על מרז"ל אשר כל הזהיר ביין של קידוש* וביין של הבדלה** הרי זה מוסיף במאור עיניו.
ובימי חדש אלול חדש החשבון של כל השנה, יש לומר בזה גם על דרך הרמז והמוסר, אשר כל הזהיר ביין (נכנס יין השכל וההבנה - יצא ונגלה סוד האדם והבריאה) של קידוש (במה שעליו לקדש בחייו ובחלקו בעולם על ידי עשה טוב (מצות עשה)) ובהבדלה (במה שעליו להפרד ולהבדל מזה על ידי סור מרע (מצות לא תעשה)) הרי זה מוסיף במאור עיניו של אדם, אשר יראה את האמת בכל סביבתו ובקרבו פנימה אמת הוי' לעולם, וכלשון הרמב"ם (תחלת יסודי התורה) הוא לבדו האמת ואין לאחר אמת כאמיתו (ומקודם לזה) וכל הנמצאים לא נמצאו אלא מאמיתת המצאו.
בברכה לרפואה קרובה ולבשורות טובות ולכתיבה וחתימה טובה.
ובהבדלה הוא ע"י השירים, כיון דעד עת קץ שאת רוח הטומאה אעביר מן הארץ - הוא רק שמעכבים את הפורעניות, כלשון הפדר"א, ולא שמבטלין כליל מכל הארץ, שזוהי פעולת מצוה עצמה. ואכמ"ל.

Through Haraha"ch iy"a nu"n oseik b'tzt"z Morenu HaRav Ben Tzion Shem Tov shadar, I received information regarding your health situation, and my strong hope is that everything was in order and successful, and that you will inform me of good news in this regard.
Certainly it is unnecessary to remind you of what our sages said: anyone who is careful with the wine of Kiddush* and the wine of Havdalah** will have increased brightness in his eyes.
And during the days of the month of Elul—the month of accounting for the entire year—one can also interpret this as a hint and moral lesson: whoever is careful with wine (when wine enters—intellect and understanding emerge; secrets of man and creation are revealed) of Kiddush (what one must sanctify in his life and his portion in the world through 'do good' (positive commandments)) and Havdalah (what one must separate from through 'turn from evil' (negative commandments)), this increases a person's clarity—he will see truth everywhere around him and within himself: "Emes Hashem l'olam" (the L‑rd's truth is eternal), and as Maimonides writes at the beginning of Yesodei HaTorah: "He alone is truth; there is no other truth like His truth. (And before this:) All that exists exists only from the truth of His existence."
Blessings for a speedy recovery, for good tidings, and for being inscribed and sealed for good.
And regarding Havdalah—it is through songs. Since until the time when "I will remove the spirit of impurity from the earth," it only holds back calamity—as stated in Pirkei d'Rabbi Eliezer—and does not completely abolish it from the earth; that is the effect of the mitzvah itself. And this is not the place to elaborate.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that being careful with Kiddush and Havdalah wine brings physical benefit (improved eyesight) as well as spiritual clarity. Sanctifying what should be holy in life and separating from negativity allows one to perceive truth both within oneself and in one's surroundings.
