במענה על מכתבו מכ"ה תמוז, עם מכתב המוסגר בו, שכנראה שולחו בכדי להסביר סיבת התרגשות שלו בקבלתו מכתב זה, וכנראה שהטעם הוא מפני שלא אני באתי על החתום, ואפשר שלומד בזה איזה פירושים, ואין צריך לעשות זה כי אין בזה כל כוונות צדדיות ח"ו, והטעם שלא באתי בעצמי עה"ח אף שכמובן קורא אני כל המכתבים המתקבלים על שמי וגם אומר לשון המענה, ובהנוגע לחתימה, הנה כשתוכן המכתב דורש את זה, היינו שיש בו ענינים של בקשות נפשיות או תוכן מיוחד בתורת הנגלה ותורת החסידות בא אני עה"ח, משא"כ במכתב הנ"ל שעיקרו בא לאשר קבלת מכתבו הוא, ולהעיר שימת לבבו לתוכן מכתבי לצעירי אגו"ח אשר עליו באתי עה"ח, וכיון שהסיום במכתבי ... הוא שהוא שייך לכל אחד ואחד מאתנו הרי זה כאילו - ואפשר גם בלא כ"ף הדמיון - נכתב גם מכתב אליו, ובחתימתי.
לרוב הפשיטות לא הי' בראש בדעתי גם להבטיח (באווארענען) פירושים אחרים בהענין, אלא כיון שרואה אני במכתבו בהכתוב בו עוד יותר מבין השיטים שיש בזה ענינים מבלבלים אותו, באתי בשורותי אלה, והשי"ת יעזור לכ' לחזק היהדות ולהפצתה בכל מקום שהוא נמצא, ולעשות את זה מתוך בריאות הנכונה והרחבת הדעת.

In response to your letter from the 25th of Tammuz, with the enclosed letter, which was apparently sent to explain your agitation upon receiving this letter, and it seems the reason is because I did not personally sign it. Perhaps you are interpreting this in various ways, but there is no need for this because there are absolutely no hidden intentions here, G‑d forbid. The reason I did not personally sign it—although of course I read all letters addressed to me and also dictate the wording of the response—is that when the content of a letter requires it (meaning it contains personal requests or special content in Nigleh or Chassidus), then I do sign personally. However, in this case, the main purpose was simply to acknowledge receipt of your letter and to draw your attention to the content of my letter to Tzeirei Agudas Chabad, which I did sign personally.
Since the conclusion of my letter... is that it applies to each and every one of us, it is as if—and perhaps even without any 'as if'—a letter was written to you as well and signed by me. Out of sheer simplicity, it did not occur to me that other interpretations would be made about this matter; but since I see from your letter—and even more so between the lines—that this issue is confusing you, I am writing these lines. May Hashem help you strengthen Judaism and spread it wherever you are found, and do so with good health and peace of mind.
