במענה על מכתבו, בו שואל חוות דעתי באשר שתי דרכים לפניו, אם לקבל משרה בתור רופא ויהי' טרוד בעניני פרנסתו מבלי זמן פנוי כדי הצורך לחקירות מדעיות, או להשתדל לסדר חייו באופן שיוכל להתקדם בחקירות מדעיות שכפי הנראה יש לו סיכויים טובים להצלחה בזה.
הנה מובן שהדרך השני טובה יותר כיון שעל האדם להביא בחשבון לא רק את השבועות והחדשים הקרובים אלא והעיקר עתידו בשנים הבאות, וכדאי צמצום בחיים לזמן קצר, בשביל לקבל סיפוק נפשי וגם שיפור המצב הגשמי לשנים ארוכות, אבל מובן גם כן שבמה דברים אמורים אם יהי' בידו לסדר אופן פרנסתו על כל פנים בצמצום גם אם יקדיש רוב מרצו וחלק חשוב מזמנו לחקירות מדעיות, כי בלאו הכי הרי טרדת הפרנסה מבלבלת בעת החקירה וקשה להתקדם בזה.
בטח למותר לעוררו אשר כל איש ואשה הישראלים, אשרם האמיתי ולא רק ברוחניות אלא גם בגשמיות, תלוי בהנהגתם בחייהם מתאים להוראת תורתנו הק' תורת חיים, וככל שהקשר בזה הדוק יותר מגדילים גם כן האפשרית לשיפור החיים בגשם וברוח, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון.

In response to your letter in which you ask my opinion regarding two paths before you—whether to accept a position as a doctor and thus be occupied with your livelihood without sufficient free time for scientific research, or to try to arrange your life so you can advance in scientific research, where it appears you have good prospects for success. It is understood that the second path is better since a person must consider not only the coming weeks and months but, more importantly, his future in the years ahead. It is worthwhile to live with some limitations for a short time in order to gain long-term personal satisfaction and also improve one's material situation for many years. However, this applies only if you can arrange your livelihood at least minimally even while dedicating most of your energy and significant time to scientific research; otherwise, preoccupation with earning a living disrupts research and makes progress difficult.
It is surely unnecessary to remind you that every Jewish man and woman—their true happiness not only spiritually but also materially—depends on conducting their lives according to the teachings of our holy Torah, the Torah of Life. The stronger this connection is, the greater the possibility for improvement both materially and spiritually. Nothing stands in the way of will.
