... תמהתי לידיעה שהגיעתני מאחד שעפ"י הוראתי הי' עליו לקבל מהם גמ"ח, וענה שלא עשה את זה כיון שהגמ"ח שלהם הוא ע"פ היתר עיסקא ואין רצונו להכנס בעניני רבית אפי' באופן כזה. וכיון שגם אני משתמט מענינים כאלו, תמיה גדולה שהרי ידוע שבעניני רבית אינו נוגע רק להלוה והמלוה אלא גם להעדים וכל שיש לו שייכות כו' וכו'. וטרם לעשות באופן הנ"ל - גמ"ח בהיתר עיסקא - צריך הי' לקבל את הסכמתי, וכלשון המורגל במכתבי הנה - אין צועקין על העבר.

I was surprised by the information I received from someone who, according to my instruction, was supposed to receive a Gemach from them, and he replied that he did not do so because their Gemach operates with a heter iska and he does not wish to become involved in interest matters even in such a manner. Since I myself also avoid such matters, it is very surprising—after all, it is known that issues of interest do not affect only the borrower and lender but also the witnesses and anyone connected to it, etc., etc.
And before acting in this manner—a Gemach with heter iska—my agreement should have been obtained first. As is often stated in my letters: "We do not cry over the past." May it be G‑d's will that this be corrected for the future... And thank you in advance.
