אין ענטפער אויף אייער בריף 8/31 אין וועלכען איר באשרייבט אין קורצע[ן] אייער ביאגראפיע און פארענדיקט אז אום צו ערגענצען און פארפאלקאמען אייער וויסענשאפט אין יהדות וואלט איר געוואלט לערנען אין דער ישיבה תומכי תמימים און באקומען פון די בחורים די נויטיגע ידיעות און ערקלערונגען. איר שרייבט אויך אז איר האט געלערענט א ביסל חומש תהלים כו' און ווי עס ווייזט אויס קענט איר אויך לייענען אידיש ניט נאר ענגליש און איר ווילט טאן עפעס פארן כלל ישראל.
לויט מיין מיינונג וויבאלד די ישיבה האט אירע סדרים באשטימטע פאר די בחורים צו לערנען און זיי זיינען באשעפטיגט אין דעם כמעט א גאנצען טאג, זעה איך ניט ווי איר וועט קענען לערנען פון זיי דאס וואס איר נויטיגט זיך, סיידען דאס זאל זיין ניט מער ווי א האלבע שעה א טאג, וואס ווער פון זיי וועט אייך קענען געבען, און די גאנצע צייט זאלט איר זיך געפינען צוישען יונגע בחורים, ווייס איך ניט ווי איר וועט זיך פילען באקוועם, און במילא וועט דער לערנען ניט זיין מיט הצלחה.
און דעריבער לויט מיין מיינונג וואלט איר געדארפט איינטיילנעמען אין די שיעורים וואס ווערען געלערענט ברבים אין די שולען, ווי עין יעקב, חומש, קיצור שולחן און ענליכע און געפינען א עלטערן תלמיד חכם וועלכער זאל אדער אינגאנצען אומזיסט אדער פאר א קליינעם געצאלט לערנען מיט אייך יעדער טאג א שעה אדער צוויי, און אין דער צייט אויך ערקלערין אייך דאס וואס [איז] ניט פארשטאנדיק געווען בא אייך ווען איר האט געלערענט פאר זיך.
ווען אייער דירה איז ניט ווייט פון דער ישיבה אדער פון א ענליכע ישיבה, וואלט איר געקענט דאוונען צוזאמען מיט די בחורים און אויך פארבריינגען מיט זיי אין זייער פרייע צייט און בפרט שבת און יום טוב דאס אלץ צוזאמען וואלט אייך געגעבען די מעגליכקייט צו גרייכען אייער אויבענדערמאנטען ציעל.
איך האף אז לויט ווי איר שרייבט ווילט איר טאן עפעס פארן כלל ישראל, לייגט איר דאס ניט אפ אויף א שפעטערע צייט נאר טוט שוין אין דעם דורך איינווירקען אויף קרובים פריינד און באקאנטע צו מאכען זיי נעהענטער צו אידישקייט בכלל און צו קיום המצות בפרט, און אז מען רעט הארציקע רייד איז סוף כל סוף ווירקט דאס אויף יעדערען.
איך האף צו הערען פון אייך גוטע בשורות אין דאס אלעס אויבען דערמאנטע, און לויטן מנהג ישראל ווינש איך אייך א כתיבה וחתימה טובה.

In response to your letter of 8/31 in which you briefly describe your biography and conclude that to supplement and complete your knowledge in Judaism you would like to study in the Yeshivah Tomchei Temimim and receive from the students the necessary information and explanations. You also write that you have studied a bit of Chumash, Tehillim, etc., and it appears you can also read Yiddish, not just English, and you wish to do something for the Jewish people.
In my opinion, since the yeshivah has its own set schedules for the students to learn and they are occupied with this almost all day, I do not see how you will be able to learn from them what you need unless it is no more than half an hour a day—which one of them could give you—and spending all your time among young students, I am not sure how comfortable you will feel; therefore, the learning will not be successful.
Therefore, in my opinion, you should participate in the public classes that are taught in shuls—such as Ein Yaakov, Chumash, Kitzur Shulchan Aruch and similar topics—and find an older Torah scholar who will either entirely free of charge or for a small fee learn with you every day for an hour or two. During this time he can also explain anything that was unclear to you when you learned on your own.
If your residence is not far from the yeshivah or a similar institution, you could pray together with the students and also farbreng with them during their free time—especially on Shabbos and Yom Tov. All this together would give you the opportunity to achieve your aforementioned goal.
I hope that as you write that you want to do something for the Jewish people, do not postpone it for a later time but already begin by influencing relatives, friends, and acquaintances to bring them closer to Judaism in general and mitzvah observance in particular. When heartfelt words are spoken they ultimately have an effect on everyone.
I hope to hear good news from you regarding all of the above. And according to Jewish custom I wish you a kesivah v'chasimah tovah.
