Shalom u'Vrachah!

I received your letters from the 10th and 15th of Elul and those before them. Although I appreciated your Limud Zechus (judging others favorably) regarding everyone you encounter—as is well known, this is a great matter according to our Sages, especially in Chassidus—still, this alone does not fill the void of missing actions. If Limud Zechus prevents one from awakening and motivating others, then even though the one who judges favorably receives great reward from Heaven for this, one must also consider the loss caused by not encouraging action, etc.

It is well known the saying of my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal: This is the main function of the angel Michael and Metat"ron—they record the merits of Israel. But we are "day workers," as the tzt"z said; our job is to bring light into the world through actual deeds. And so as not to fool oneself, one should take a piece of paper and write down what has been done and what could have been done...
