...ומש"כ לי שמתאוננים הם שבזמן האחרון, העסקים שלהם הולכים בקושי, הנה אפשר שבשנה העברה צמצמו במקצת בנתינת הצדקה לעניני תורה ויראת שמים, ולכן מהראוי שמכאן ולהבא יוסיפו בזה, ובמדה שנראית בעיניהם שהוא למעלה מהמגיע מהם, וידועה הבטחת הקב"ה, עשר בשביל שתתעשר, ובמצות הצדקה בפרט הרי אומר השי"ת, ובחנוני נא בזאת.
כן מהראוי אשר הנשים שלהם תחי' הנה קודם הדלקת נרות בכל עש"ק וערב יום טוב, יתנו איזה סכום (קטן) לצדקת רבי מאיר בעל הנס - רמבעה"ן - והשי"ת יצליחם אותם נשיהם בניהם ובנותיהם שיחיו בהמצטרך להם, ויזכו כולם לקבלת התורה בשמחה ובפנימיות בתוך כלל ישראל.

...Regarding what you wrote to me that there are complaints that recently their businesses have been struggling, it is possible that last year they reduced somewhat in giving charity to matters of Torah and fear of Heaven. Therefore, it is appropriate that from now on they should increase in this, and to an extent that seems to them above what is expected from them. And it is well known the assurance of the Holy One Blessed be He: 'Tithe so that you may become wealthy,' and regarding the mitzvah of charity in particular, the Holy One says: 'And test Me now with this.'
Similarly, it is appropriate that their wives—may they live—before lighting candles every Erev Shabbat and Erev Yom Tov, should give some (small) amount to the charity of Rabbi Meir Baal HaNes—Ramba"an—and may the Holy One grant them success: themselves, their wives, sons and daughters—may they live—in all their needs. May they all merit receiving the Torah with joy and inwardness among all Israel.

Summary
Increasing charity brings blessing in both spiritual and material matters. Giving before candle lighting is especially powerful for women. The Rebbe teaches that generosity opens channels for success and invokes G‑d's assurance of abundance.
