... ומ"ש בענין ההיזק שהי' להם ע"י השטפון וכו', הנה בודאי ראה מכתב אדמו"ר הזקן במ"ש להר"מ מדריבין (הנדפס בבית רבי ח"א עק"ן. ועיין במאה שערים ע' לו, ועד"ז יש ג"כ מאדמו"ר האמצעי - שם ע' כח. ואדמו"ר הצמח צדק בספר המצות עמוד רכ"ח), אשר לאחר היזק היינו מדת הדין מתעוררת מדת הרחמים שהיא גדולה ממדת החסד שבתחלה כנודע שהיא מדריגתו של יעקב נחלה בלי מצרים מבריח מן הקצה אל הקצה, וזהו ענין של עשירות, ויה"ר אשר בקרוב ממש יראה זה בעיני בשר ולמטה מעשרה טפחים.

Regarding what you wrote about the damage caused by the flood, surely you have seen the letter of Admor HaZaken to Reb Moshe of Dribin (printed in Beis Rabi vol. 1 p. 170; see also Meah Shearim p. 36; similarly from Admor HaEmtza'i there p. 28; and Admor tzt"z in Sefer HaMitzvos p. 228), which explains that after damage—meaning after an expression of strict judgment—the attribute of mercy is awakened, which is even greater than the original attribute of kindness. As is known, this is the level of Yaakov: 'an inheritance without boundaries, spanning from one end to the other.' This is a concept of wealth. May it be G‑d's will that you will soon see this with your own eyes and in a revealed way below ten handbreadths.
