Shalom u'Vrachah!
As we approach the new year that is coming upon us and all Israel for good, I hereby wish your honor and all those connected to you a year of life and peace and abundant blessings in both material and spiritual matters—a fruitful and successful year in your service for the benefit of both the community and individuals. May the will of Hashem prosper in your hand.
With blessings for being inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, a year of redemption through our righteous Moshiach speedily in our days. M. Schneerson
Enclosed is the booklet for the upcoming Rosh Hashanah—from the teachings of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal—recently published. Surely your honor will find it desirable.
A brief note relevant to this day: On 25 Elul creation began—'And there was evening and there was morning, one day.' There are two opinions regarding time: whether it is continuous or interrupted. It can be said that this is debated in Talmudic discussions and by Rava in Nazir (7a). However, all agree that night and day are one unit—not separated—for 'day and night' is an incidental aspect of time, not its essence. In contrast, between one day and another there is reason to say they are separated since each day fulfills its own purpose (Zohar III 94b). Therefore there are seven distinct days which then repeat: first day etc.
In a person's service to his Creator: night and day—ultimately none will be cast away; even transgressions can become merits as he removes the spirit of impurity. 'The night will shine like the day.' But days are separated; even in the future every righteous person will be burned by his fellow's canopy. Much more could be said but this suffices.
Summary
The Rebbe blesses for a good new year filled with material and spiritual success. He teaches that while night and day form a single unit reflecting unity in Divine service, each day stands apart with its unique mission—reminding us to elevate every moment in our lives.
