ב"ה, כ"ד אלול, השי"ת
הרה"ח הוו"ח אי"א וכו'... שי'

במענה על מכתבו מט' אלול,
מה שכותב הטעמים של... שי' למסור את בנם לחינוך לא לישיבתנו, אשר הטעם הראשון מפני שהוא חבר האגודה, והטעם השני בשביל התכלית,
הנה שני הטעמים אינם,
א) מה שהוא באגודה, הנה ידוע שכל אחד ואחד צריך להשתדל שיהי' משפיע על סביבתו ולא להיפך, וכיון שיש לו שייכות לחב"ד והי' ג"כ מקושר לכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ ונמצא הוא בסביבה של אגודה, הרי בטח זהו בהשגחה פרטית ער זאל מאכן פון די אגודה'ניקעס חב"דניקעס, און ניט ער זאל מאכן פון זיך און זיין בעל-הבית'טע און קינדער וואס זיינען חב"דניקעס - אגודה'ניקעס. ויש בכלל מאתים מנה, ולא להיפך. איני מאריך בכל זה כי פשוט הוא, והאריכות אך למותר.
ב) והטעם שאומרים שהוא משום תכלית, הנה כתבו רז"ל אין אדם יודע במה משתכר, והכוונה הן לשכר רוחני והן לשכר גשמי, ואם בגדולים כך, על אחת כמה וכמה בילדים שעדיין בתחילת החינוך שאי אפשר לדעת כלל וכלל במה ישתכר כשיגדל ויהי' לאיש.
מה שכותב בענין העזר להמל"ח מחנה וקה"ת, שכנראה ממכתבו הולך בכבדות, הנה מוסגר פה העתק ממה שכתבתי לאחד בזה, וד"ל.
מוסגר פה הקונטרס לר"ה הבע"ל עם מכתב המצורף אליו ומכתב כללי. גם מכתב לבני הישיבות. ולפי דעתי מהראוי ששני מכתבים אלו יפרסמו באופן המתאים בחוגים שונים.

In response to your letter from the 9th of Elul regarding the reasons given by ... shiy' for not enrolling their son in our yeshiva—the first reason being his membership in Agudah, and the second concerning practical outcomes—I will address both points.
a) Regarding his involvement with Agudah: It is well known that every individual must strive to influence their surroundings positively, not the other way around. Since he has a connection to Chabad and was also connected to my revered father-in-law, the previous Rebbe hk"m, and he finds himself among Agudah circles, surely this is by Divine Providence so that he should transform Agudah members into Chabadniks—not that he should turn himself, his wife, and children who are Chabadniks into Agudah members. "Included in two hundred is one hundred," and not the reverse. I do not elaborate further as this is self-evident; more words are unnecessary.
b) As for the claim that it is for practical outcomes: Our Sages said, "A person does not know by what he will earn," referring both to spiritual and material reward. If this is true for adults, how much more so for children at the beginning of their education—it is impossible to know at all what will bring success as they grow up.
Regarding your mention of assistance for Melamed Cheder Machaneh and Kehot: From your letter it seems things are progressing slowly. Enclosed here is a copy of what I wrote to someone else on this matter—enough said.
Also enclosed is the booklet for the upcoming Rosh Hashanah with an attached letter and a general letter. There is also a letter for yeshiva students. In my opinion, it would be appropriate for these two letters to be published suitably among different circles.
