Likkutei Sichos Chelek Daled – Shoftim – Divine Command and Human Effort in Torah Study

This sicha explores the dual roles of divine command and human effort in fulfilling the mitzvah of Torah study. The Rebbe discusses the balance between divine assistance and personal involvement, emphasizing the importance of dedication while relying on divine guidance.

1 The verse commands 'These words shall be upon your heart,' highlighting the necessity of personal dedication to Torah study. While Torah is given from Above, man must exert effort to internalize and understand it.

2 A Midrash explains that just as eating sustains life, engaging in Torah sustains the soul. This dual responsibility combines human endeavor with divine support.

3 Our sages note that one must toil in Torah, yet God promises assistance. This partnership leads to true comprehension and spiritual growth.

The Rebbe emphasizes aligning one’s actions with divine will, ensuring increased holiness. This synthesis fosters spiritual awareness and fulfillment in life.
