In Shulchan Menachem, today we are up to Ayin Dalet-Reish, 274. It is well established that every prayer concludes with a Kaddish Teskabel—the special Kaddish recited after each major tefillah. The phrase Teskabel tzloysun uve'usun d'chovei s'rol chadmavoyim means that Hashem should accept our prayers. This Kaddish is recited after Shachris, Mincha, Musaf, Neila—essentially after any Amida, whenever we complete a formal tefillah.

2. Selichos and Its Relationship to Kaddish Teskabel

The question arises regarding the recitation of Kaddish Teskabel after Selichos. When Selichos is incorporated within the davening itself, it does not receive its own Kaddish, as it is considered part of the ongoing prayer and not a standalone section. However, when Selichos is recited before the start of Shachris, the custom is to say a separate Kaddish Teskabel at its conclusion, asking that these prayers be accepted before Hashem.

3. The View of the Eshel Avraham on Consecutive Prayers

There is an opinion brought by the Eshel Avraham that if one begins Shachris immediately after Selichos without any interruption, then Kaddish Teskabel should not be said after Selichos. According to this view, since both are part of one continuous davening, there is no need for a separate acceptance prayer between them. The exception to this would be Rosh Hashanah, which involves additional complexities and is treated as a separate subject.

4. The Rebbe’s Position and Common Practice

The Rebbe addresses this opinion and clarifies that it represents only an individual view. In practice, everywhere he has seen, the custom remains to say Kaddish Teskabel after Selichos regardless of whether Shachris follows immediately or not. The Rebbe brings proof from other parts of davening: for example, on Yom Kippur we say Kaddish Teskabel after each consecutive tefillah—Shachris, Musaf, Mincha, Neila—even though they follow one another closely.

5. Distinction Between Integrated and Separate Selichos

A key distinction is made between Selichos that are integrated into the davening versus those recited beforehand. When Selichos are part of the actual davening (such as during certain fast days), they do not receive their own Kaddish Teskabel because they are not independent prayers. However, when recited prior to Shachris as a standalone segment, they warrant their own concluding Kaddish.

6. Interruption Between Selichos and Shachris

Even according to the Eshel Avraham’s stringent view, if there is any interruption between Selichos and Shachris—such as pausing to put on Talis and Tefillin, or even if only some members of the community do so—this constitutes a hafsik, an interruption. In such cases, everyone agrees that one must say Kaddish Teskabel at the end of Selichos before proceeding with Shachris.

7. Practical Conclusion: Reciting Kaddish Teskabel After Selichos

In summary: The widespread custom is to always say Kaddish Teskabel at the conclusion of Selichos before beginning Shachris. Even brief interruptions such as donning Talis and Tefillin require it according to all opinions. Thus, we maintain this practice consistently in our communities.
