The Rebbe discusses the custom found in some communities to recite Shir HaShirim on Shabbos Chol HaMoed of Pesach. In years when there is no Shabbos Chol HaMoed, it is recited on Shabbos itself.
One of the central themes of Shir HaShirim, as the Rebbe explains, is that it expresses the love between HaKadosh Baruch Hu and Knesses Yisrael. It is therefore especially appropriate to recite it during the time of redemption, when Hashem revealed His love for the Jewish people.
Although the Rebbe does not elaborate here, it is known that in some places Shir HaShirim is recited regularly, such as on Erev Shabbos.
However, the Rebbe brings from Toras Menachem that according to the minhag Chabad, Shir HaShirim is not recited in a formal way, even without a bracha.
There is, however, an exception. The Rebbe notes that there were individuals who would recite Shir HaShirim on the night of the Seder, particularly on the second night. The Rebbe adds that this was also the custom of his father, who would say Shir HaShirim at night.
It is also noted that in Sephardic communities, the practice is likewise not to recite Shir HaShirim in this context, whereas in other communities it is commonly recited.
In practice, our custom is not to recite Shir HaShirim formally. Nevertheless, those who wish may follow the custom of the Rebbe’s father to say it on the night of the Seder.

הרבי דן במנהג המצוי בכמה קהילות לומר שיר השירים בשבת חול המועד פסח. בשנים שאין שבת חול המועד, אומרים אותו בשבת עצמה.
אחד העניינים המרכזיים בשיר השירים, כפי שמבאר הרבי, הוא שהוא מבטא את האהבה בין הקדוש ברוך הוא לכנסת ישראל. לכן מתאים במיוחד לאומרו בזמן הגאולה, שבו הראה הקב״ה את אהבתו לעם ישראל.
אף שהרבי אינו מאריך כאן, ידוע שבמקומות מסוימים אומרים שיר השירים בקביעות, כגון בערב שבת.
אולם הרבי מביא מתורת מנחם שלפי מנהג חב״ד אין אומרים שיר השירים באופן רשמי, אפילו ללא ברכה.
עם זאת, יש יוצא מן הכלל. הרבי מציין שיש אנשים שאומרים שיר השירים בליל הסדר, במיוחד בלילה השני. הרבי מוסיף שזה היה גם מנהג אביו, שהיה אומר שיר השירים בלילה.
כן מובא שגם בקהילות ספרד אין נוהגים לומר שיר השירים בהקשר זה, בעוד שבקהילות אחרות נוהגים כן.
למעשה, מנהגנו הוא שלא לומר שיר השירים באופן רשמי. עם זאת, מי שרוצה יכול לנהוג כמנהג אביו של הרבי ולומר אותו בליל הסדר.
