Shalom u'Vrachah!
Regarding your son shiyichyeh: In general—one must follow the instructions of the treating physician, for as our Sages say, the Torah has given permission (and ability) to the doctor to heal.
It is proper to remind the doctor that since your son knows there are those who are connected to the service of Yissachar and those to Zevulun, therefore your son should (at least in the near future) conduct himself like Zevulun—that is, with a (possibly partial) job that is not in Torah (and not involving intellectual exertion in general). When he fully regains his strength, he can then decide whether to continue or change course. See also Igros Kodesh vol. 21 p. 190.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that one should follow medical advice regarding health concerns. When necessary, it is appropriate to temporarily focus on work outside of Torah study until full recovery, after which one can reevaluate their path.
