וכו', בה בשעה שבודאי ידוע למר אשר המצב מבהיל
הרבה יותר
מהכתוב בעתונות, ומה שמבהיל עוד יותר הוא שאין פוצה פה ומצפצף וכו' וד"ל.
ולדוגמא לכתבו
בנוגע לגיור וינה
, מפורסם לכל ונדפס גם בעתונות, שעברו דרך שם יותר משלש מאות שאינם מבני ישראל, והרבנים השלוחים שבקרו שם מצאו ידיעות רק ע"ד חמישים ושנים או חמשים וארבעה. זאת אומרת שיותר ממאתים וחמשים לא עברו כל ענין של טקס גיור אפילו לא של צרמוני' ריקה לגמרי, ורובם, מלבד אלה שכבר ירדו, נמצאים באה"ק ת"ו ושמותם וגם הכתובת שלהם
ידועים
, שהרי עברו דרך משרדי הקליטה וכו'.
וכאמור לעיל,

לשאול שאלה פשוטה, איך זה אפשרי הדבר שנרשמו כיהודים וזה כמה חדשים שעלו ארצה והכל "שריר וקיים".
תפסתי בדוגמא זו כיון שמזכירה מר במכתבו. אבל בטח גם למר ידוע ע"ד הפרוצדורה המבהילה שהתנהלה בדרום אמריקה ע"י איש יחיד (ביקר, וגם אצלי, בניו-יורק – קודם נסעו לדרום אמריקה), ש"גייר" שם על ימין ועל שמאל. וכששאל איש עזות פנים לפקיד במשרד העלי' – היתכן? ענהו שיש הוראה ברורה בחוק ומהממונים עליו באהקת"ו שאין לחקור אחרי דברי הבאים לעלות ארצה אם נתגייר ואיך נתגייר ומי גיירו וכו' וכו'. והמדובר הוא במאות מקרים. ועל דרך זה גם בקליפורניא. וכוונתי כאמור לעיל לא לגיור ריפורמי, אלא בכלל להעדר כל גיור. ושמותם גם כן ידועים כיון שעלו ארצה, ויש להם תיקים במשרד העלי' וכו' וכו'. ועל דרך זה הוא גם במארסיי.
ויש עוד להרבות, אלא שאין להאריך בדבר המבהיל, וכנ"ל מבהיל עוד ביתר תוקף על אשר אין איש שם לב לזה.
ולנוסח מכתב מר שמלא המידע אינו מצוי – הרי כנ"ל המציאות היא הפכית לגמרי, ולא נתפרסם אלא מקצת מן המקצת מהשערורי' בשטח האמור: רשימת גויים כיהודים בלי כל טקס כלל, וגיור שלא כהלכה לגמרי, ובאופן מגוכח וכו', ועד כדי כך – שכמה הביאו הצלמים עמם ותלויים הם בביתם עתה באה"ק אף ש"גיירום" בוינה.
לסיום מכתבו ש"לא תשמש שום טובת הנאה סיבה להפקרת האינטרסים הנוגעים לצבור זה (הדתי)", – אחרי בקשת סליחתו וסליחת חבריו שיחיו, ישנם בידי ידיעות ברורות וממקור ראשון ומבעלי סמכה שבאם היו יוצאים מהקואליצי' בהממשלה, היו נשארים מבחוץ למשך זמן קצר, ובאם היו עומדים בתוקף על הדרישה לתיקון הגזירה האיומה דמיהו יהודי וחוק השבות, הי' חוק זה בא על תיקונו

וכפי שאמרתי בהזדמנות שיחה פרטית שלמה הדבר דומה לרופא המייעץ לחתוך הראש בכדי להציל את הרגל, ומביא ראי' לדבריו שהרי לפעמים חותכים את הרגל בשביל להציל הגוף והראש באם אין ברירה אחרת. ובודאי לדכוותי' דמר אין צורך בביאור נוסף.

ומהם גם ה"הסברה" ששמעתי שהחוק מיהו יהודי וחוק השבות אינו נוגע כלל לדת, כי אם הוא ענין פורמלי של רשימת אזרחים וכו'.
ועניתי שגם בזה הוראה ברורה בתורתנו הנצחית תורת אמת, כשביקש קיסר מילד קטן אשדי לך גושפנקא וגחין ושקיל לי' כי היכי דלימרו קביל עלי' הרמנא דמלכא – זאת אומרת שזהו רק ענין פורמלי, והמדובר הי' בילד קטן – ואמר לי' חבל עליך קיסר וכו' (גיטין נז, ב, עיי"ש).
ויהי רצון מהשי"ת א-ל רחום וחנון שיערה רוח ממרום על כל אחד ואחד, ומר וחבריו יצאו בעגלא דידן מהקואליצי' ודוקא (בגאון ובשמחה ו)מפני סיבה האמורה ולא משום ענינים צדדיים. והמכתבים הבאים תוכנם יהי' שמח וטוב בטוב האמיתי,

Your letter from 7 Iyar, with its enclosure, was received after a significant delay. Thank you for your attention in sending it to me. After asking your forgiveness, I was surprised by its content—as if the situation is being exaggerated—when surely you know that the reality is far more alarming than what is reported in the press. What is even more disturbing is that no one raises their voice or protests at all.
For example, regarding your letter about conversions in Vienna: it is well known and even published in the press that over three hundred non-Jews passed through there, while the rabbinic emissaries who visited found records for only about fifty-two or fifty-four. This means that more than two hundred and fifty did not undergo any conversion process—not even an empty ceremony—and most of them (aside from those who already left) are now in Eretz Yisrael; their names and addresses are known since they passed through the absorption offices. As mentioned above, no one bothers to ask a simple question: how is it possible that they were registered as Jews and have already immigrated months ago with everything official and valid?
I chose this example because you mentioned it in your letter. But surely you also know about the frightening procedure that took place in South America by a single individual (who also visited me in New York before traveling to South America), who converted people indiscriminately. When someone brazenly asked an official at the immigration office—how can this be?—he replied there is a clear directive from law and his superiors at the absorption office not to investigate whether those coming to Israel converted, how they converted, or who converted them. We are talking about hundreds of cases. The same applies in California. My point here is not about Reform conversions but rather about a complete lack of any conversion at all. Their names are also known since they immigrated to Israel and have files at the immigration office. The same situation exists in Marseilles as well.
There is much more to say on this alarming matter, but there is no need to elaborate further—especially since what makes it even more shocking is that no one pays attention to it at all.
Regarding your letter's wording that full information is unavailable—the reality is exactly the opposite; only a fraction of this scandal has been publicized: lists of non-Jews registered as Jews without any ceremony whatsoever; conversions done completely improperly and even ridiculously; so much so that some brought photographers with them and now have photos hanging in their homes in Eretz Yisrael even though they were "converted" in Vienna.
In conclusion to your letter—that no benefit should justify abandoning the interests of this (religious) community—after asking your forgiveness and that of your colleagues: I have clear firsthand information from reliable sources that had you left the government coalition, you would have remained outside only briefly; had you firmly demanded correction of the terrible "Who is a Jew" law and Law of Return, these laws would have been amended long ago.
As I said during a private conversation: it resembles a doctor advising to cut off one's head to save a leg—and bringing proof by saying sometimes one amputates a leg to save the body and head when there’s no other choice! Surely for someone like yourself no further explanation is needed.
It is unfortunate for our generation—a generation orphaned—that instead of having had the opportunity to be recorded in Jewish history as achieving exceptional religious accomplishments, it will be marked forever with disgrace: for the first time registering as Jews millions—including Mrs. Schalit and her two children born Jewish—and now endangering all of Israel everywhere by abolishing boundaries between Jews and non-Jews under various pretexts, including arguments I’ve heard claiming "Who is a Jew" law and Law of Return are not religious matters but merely formalities regarding citizen registries.
I responded that even here our eternal Torah gives clear guidance: when Caesar asked a young child "Give me your seal," he bent down so people would say he accepted royal authority—meaning it was just formal—but still involved a child; he was told "Woe unto you Caesar..." (Gittin 57b).
May it be G‑d’s will—the Merciful One—that He send inspiration from Above upon everyone involved so that you and your colleagues leave the coalition speedily (proudly and joyfully) specifically for this reason—not for secondary matters.
May future letters contain only joyful news—true good both spiritually and materially—in accordance with our holy Torah about which it says: "A good teaching I have given you."
