Shalom u'Vrachah!
I acknowledge receipt of your letter... In these days preceding the Festival of Redemption, Yud-Beis–Yud-Gimmel Tammuz—and especially beginning from the third day of this month—when (in the year of imprisonment and redemption—year 5687) the Rebbe (the one who experienced redemption) turned to those gathered to accompany him and said (among other things):
... Only our bodies have been handed over into exile and subjugation by foreign powers; but our souls have not been exiled nor subjugated. We must declare openly for all to see that regarding our faith—Torah, mitzvos, and Jewish customs—we Jews do not accept any outside authority.
May it be G‑d's will that each one of us among all Israel is aroused to strengthen and increase in all matters of our faith: Torah, mitzvos, and Jewish customs—which are divided into three categories: the three pillars upon which the world (in general and each person in particular) stands: Torah study, service (prayer), and acts of kindness (which include all mitzvos). May this awakening continue in action—which is most important—in daily life: engaging in Torah study and heartfelt service (prayer), fulfilling mitzvos with pure faith and acceptance of the yoke of Heaven, undeterred by any obstacle or hindrance. This will also bring closer and hasten the fulfillment of the promise: 'For G‑d will save Zion and build the cities of Judah; they shall dwell there and possess it. The descendants of His servants shall inherit it; those who love His name shall dwell therein.'

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that even when facing external challenges or exile, our souls remain free. By strengthening our commitment to Torah study, prayer, mitzvos, and Jewish customs—especially before Yud-Beis Tammuz—we bring spiritual redemption closer for ourselves and all Israel.
