זה עתה קבלתי מכתבו שנתאחר מסיבות בלתי ידועות.
ואזכירו למילוי משאלות לבבו לטובה בענינים שכותב, בנוגע עצמו ואמו תחי'.
על פי סגנון מכתבו רואני שלמותר להדגיש לו שהנהגה יום-יומית בהתאם לדרך התורה והמצוות, נוסף על העיקר הוא מילוי צווי השם יתברך, הרי זהו הצנור לקבלת ברכות ה' בכל המצטרך.
בהזדמנות זו אוסיף, אשר כיון שנמצא בצה"ל בודאי רואה במוחש אפילו בענינים גשמיים כפשוטם איך שישראל

זה לזה, ושהנהגת כל אחד ואחד ומילוי הציוויים, ומבלי להרהר עליהם, הרי זה לא רק לטובת העושה והמקיים, אלא בזה תלוי' הצלחת כל הפלוגה שנמצא בה, שמפלוגה זו תלוי המצב בכל השטח, וכן הלאה עד למצב כל החזית והארץ.
ומכאן אתה למד איך הוא גם ברוחניות הענינים והאחריות הגדולה של כל אחד בפרט, ובלשון הרמב"ם בספרו היד החזקה (הלכות תשובה, פרק ג' הלכה ד'): צריך כל אדם שיראה עצמו כל השנה כולה כאילו חציו זכאי וחציו חייב, וכן כל העולם חציו זכאי וחציו חייב. חטא חטא אחד הרי הכריע את עצמו ואת כל העולם כולו לכף חובה וגרם לו השחתה; עשה מצוה אחת הרי הכריע את עצמו ואת כל העולם כולו לכף זכות וגרם לו ולהם תשועה והצלה.
וזוהי הנקודה שברצוני להדגיש בנוגע להזכות הגדולה שיש לו כעת, שהתחזקותו למלא ציוויו של הקדוש ברוך הוא, הנקרא אלקי צבאות, יש בה כדי להנחיל נצחון גמור על האויב ובלי אבידות וכולי. ובפרט על פי הכתוב
בפרשה דשבוע זה
: כי ה' אלקיך מתהלך בקרב מחנך להצילך ולתת אויביך לפניך והי' מחניך קדוש. וכבר בישר
בראשית הפרשה
: כי תצא למלחמה על אויביך – יציאה כדבעי אז – ונתנו ה' אלקיך בידך. ויציאה למלחמה כדבעי היינו כמו שהקדים לזה בפרשה הקודמת (שופטים כ, א): כי תצא למלחמה על אויביך וראית סוס ורכב עם רב ממך לא תירא מהם, כי ה' אלקיך עמך המעלך מארץ מצרים. ופירש רש"י – בעיניך הוא רב, אבל בעיני ה' כולם כסוס אחד.
הכתוב לעיל הוא בנוגע לכל מצוות ה'. וביתר שאת הוא בנוגע למצות תפילין שסגולה מיוחדת לה על פי
הכתוב
: וראו כל עמי הארץ כי שם ה' נקרא עליך ויראו ממך, זאת אומרת שלכתחילה ייראו מלבוא עלינו במלחמה. ואפילו אם המצב בא לידי מלחמה, אז בזכות מצוות תפילין שמניחים על הזרוע ועל הראש זוכים לקיום ההבטחה

ויהי רצון שנוסף על זה שבעצמו יעשה על פי הנ"ל יהי' גם כן שליח טוב למסור הכתוב לעיל לחבריו שי', להתחזק ללכת בדרך התורה, הנקראת תורת חיים, היינו הוראה בחיי היום-יום שיהיו חיים ראויים לשמם, ונקראת גם כן תורת אמת, כי נצחיית היא. ובהסברה מתאימה בדברים היוצאים מן הלב, ובפרט על ידי שיהי' דוגמא חי' הנהגה האמורה, בודאי שיוכל לזכות את הרבים וזכות הרבים תלוי בו.
והרי הימים האלו ימי סגולה הם, ימי התעוררות וימי רחמים, הוא חודש אלול, חודש ההכנה לקבלת ברכת ה' בכל המצטרך, ובפרט לכתיבה וחתימה טובה, לשנה טובה ומתוקה.

Shalom u'Vrachah! I have just received your letter which was delayed for reasons unknown. I will mention you for the fulfillment of your heart's desires for good in the matters you wrote about, regarding yourself and your mother may she live.
Based on the style of your letter, I see it is unnecessary to emphasize that daily conduct according to the path of Torah and mitzvos—beyond being essential as fulfilling the command of Hashem—is also the channel for receiving Hashem's blessings in all one's needs.
I will add on this occasion that since you are in Tzahal (the IDF), you surely see tangibly—even in material matters—how Israel are responsible for one another. The conduct of each individual and fulfilling the commandments without questioning is not only for the benefit of the doer but determines the success of the entire unit he is in; from this unit depends the situation in the whole area, and so on up to the state of the entire front and land.
From here you learn how this applies even more so in spiritual matters—the great responsibility each individual bears. In the words of Rambam in his Yad HaChazakah (Laws of Teshuvah 3:4): Every person should see himself all year as if he is half meritorious and half guilty; likewise, all the world is half meritorious and half guilty. If he commits one sin he tips himself and all the world to guilt and causes destruction; if he does one mitzvah he tips himself and all the world to merit and brings them salvation and rescue.
This is what I wish to emphasize regarding your great merit now: your strengthening to fulfill Hashem's command—He Who is called Elokei Tzevaos—has power to bring complete victory over the enemy without losses etc.
This is especially so according to what is written in this week's parsha: Ki Hashem Elokecha mis'halech b'kerev machanecha le'hatzilcha u'le'tet oyvecha lefanecha v'haya machanecha kadosh ("For Hashem your G‑d walks within your camp to save you and give your enemies before you; therefore your camp shall be holy"). And already at the beginning of this parsha it states: Ki tetzei la'milchamah al oyvecha—if you go out properly to war against your enemies—then Hashem your G‑d will deliver them into your hand. And going out properly means as stated previously (Shoftim 20:1): Ki tetzei la'milchamah al oyvecha v'ra'isa sus v'rechev am rav mimcha lo tira meihem ki Hashem Elokecha imach ha'ma'alcha me'eretz Mitzrayim ("When you go out to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots—a people more numerous than you—do not fear them because Hashem your G‑d who brought you up from Egypt is with you"). Rashi explains: In your eyes they are many but in Hashem's eyes they are like a single horse.
The above applies regarding all mitzvos. It applies even more strongly regarding tefillin which has a special segulah as written: V'ra'u kol amei ha'aretz ki shem Hashem nikra alecha v'yare'u mimeka ("All nations will see that Hashem's Name is called upon you and they will fear you")—meaning that from the outset they will fear attacking us in war. Even if it comes to war, then by virtue of tefillin worn on arm and head we merit fulfillment of 'and He will shatter arm as well as skull.'
May it be His will that not only should you yourself act accordingly but also be a good emissary to convey these words above to your friends sh"y—to strengthen them to follow Torah's path which is called Toras Chaim—a guide for daily life so that life truly deserves its name—and also called Toras Emes because it is eternal. With proper explanation from heartfelt words—and especially by being a living example—you can surely merit many others; their merit depends on you.
These days are auspicious days—days of awakening and mercy—the month of Elul, a month preparing for receiving Hashem's blessing in all needs, especially for being inscribed and sealed for a good sweet year.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that every individual's actions affect both themselves and their community spiritually and materially. Strengthening Torah observance—especially tefillin—not only brings personal blessing but also collective protection. Sharing these values inspires others during auspicious times like Elul.
