במענה למכתבו מיום א' פ' וישב, בו שואל דעתי בנוגע להתכנית לקרוא "ועידה עולמית מבתי כנסיות" באה"ק תובב"א בשבועות הקרובים,
דעתי
ברורה בזה, כמו שעניתי מכבר לכמה אשר שאלוני בנידון האמור –

ובכל תוקף נגד תכנית האמורה, ובאם ח"ו תבוא לפועל – נגד ההשתתפות בה.
ומיוסדת דעתי על מה ששמעתי מכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר עמדת כל גדולי ישראל ומנהיגיו בדור הקודם – שהתנגדו בכל התוקף לתכניות כהאמורה או בדומה לה.
ואם בדור הקודם התנגדו לזה כל גדולי ישראל, על אחת כמה וכמה בדורנו זה דור יתום, אשר

כאמור, לדעתי ברור אשר השנוי, בעוה"ר, מדור הקודם לדורנו שולל עוד יותר ויותר תכנית האמורה, וד"ל.

In response to your letter from Sunday, Parshas Vayeshev, in which you ask my opinion regarding the plan to convene a global conference of synagogues in the coming weeks, my opinion is clear on this matter—as I have already answered several who have asked me about this subject—clear and with full strength against the aforementioned plan; and if it does take place—against participating in it.
My opinion is based on what I heard from my father-in-law, the Rebbe—namely, the position of all Gedolei Yisrael and its leaders in the previous generation—that they strongly opposed such plans or anything similar. And if all Gedolei Yisrael opposed this in the previous generation, how much more so in our generation—a "generation of orphans," even though "the generation is fit" (in Tamim). I have heard the argument from those who obligate that times have changed, etc., but as stated above, in my view it is clear that the change—from the previous generation to ours—only further negates such a plan.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that longstanding positions of Torah leaders remain valid even as times change; new circumstances often reinforce rather than weaken these principles. One should be cautious about participating in initiatives previously opposed by Gedolei Yisrael.
