As is customary, according to the opinion of the majority—without compelling the minority, and the choice remains in their hands. This is a copy, and it is a response to Rosh HaYeshiva Harav Mordechai Mentlik, regarding the study of the masechta in Chabad yeshivas worldwide. Additional letters to him—above, volume 18, letter 5692; volume 28, letter 9182; above, letter 3898. According to the order of study over the years, the masechta studied in 5728 was Kesubos, and there were some heads of yeshivas who wanted to change and study a different masechta.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that decisions about which masechta to study in Chabad yeshivas should follow majority rule but without coercing those who wish to do otherwise. Respect for both majority and minority opinions is emphasized.
