נדפסה ב"מקדש מלך" ח"ב ע' 257, והוא מענה להצעת המזכיר הרי"ל שי' גרונר, להוסיף בהקדמת המו"ל לס' המפתחות לדא"ח שנדפס אז (ועיקרו נערך ע"י רבינו) את מארז"ל (עירובין כא, ב): קודם שתיקן שלמה כו' היתה התורה דומה לכפיפה שאין לה אזנים.
Shalom u'Vrachah! [Erev Shabbat Kodesh, 20 Menachem Av, 5726] It is clear that one cannot say that until the year 5726, the teachings of Chassidus were like a basket without handles!!
This was printed in "Mikdash Melech" vol. II, p. 257, and it is an answer to the suggestion of the secretary R. Leibel Groner, to add in the publisher's introduction to the Sefer HaMafteichot for Divrei Elokim Chaim (which was then published and primarily edited by our Rebbe) the statement of our Sages (Eruvin 21b): Before Shlomo instituted [certain laws], the Torah was like a basket without handles.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that Chassidus always possessed completeness and should not be compared to Torah before Shlomo's enactments; analogies must be used with care when describing spiritual developments.
