במענה למכתבו מי"ב אייר, עם המצורף אליו, בו שואל חוות דעתי בנוגע לימוד שקוראים general religious and moral education שהנהיגה הממשלה, ובזה שתי שאלות:
א. אם לימוד זה מזיק לנפשות ילדי ישראל?
ב. ואם מחוייבים ע"פ הלכה לבא במשפט בזה?
א. מובן שלימוד זה (כפי המבואר בחוברת המצורפת) איסורו בכלל בדברי המורה הגדול הוא הרמב"ם ביד החזקה שלו, הלכות ע"ז פרק שני , ואיסורו - איסור מן התורה,
על פי פסק הדין הידוע, אשר נוצרים הם עובדי עבודה זרה.
מזה מובן שלא רק שהלימוד מזיק לילדי ישראל, כי אם עוד שהוא ענין בהלכות עבודה זרה, שאפילו אביזרייהו שלהם חמורים ביותר, ועל אחת כמה וכמה איסור ממש.
ב. מהאמור מסקנה מידית אשר מחוייבים על פי ההלכה לבוא במשפט בזה, ולעשות ככל האפשרי, בכל הדרכים החוקיים לבטל גזירה האמורה. ובודאי כשיסבירו המצב לאמתתו ובתוקף הדרוש, תקובל הטענה, כיון שהענין נוגע ברגש הדתי ואמונת איתן של עמנו בני ישראל, עליהם מסרו נפשם במשך כל הדורות, עד אשר כל עמי הארץ, וביחוד העמים הנאורים בארצות דמוקראטיות, הכירו שאין להכריח את בני עם ישראל לעבור על דתם ח"ו, ואפילו לא לנגשם ולהצר עליהם ולהקשות להם קיום שמירת דתם.
לפשיטות הדבר ולדחיפת הענין, אסתפק בשורות אלו המעטות בכמות לפי ערך הענין.

In response to your letter from the 12th of Iyar, with its attachment, in which you ask my opinion regarding the study called general religious and moral education instituted by the government, you raise two questions: A. Does this study harm the souls of Jewish children? B. Is there a halachic obligation to take legal action regarding this?
A. It is clear that this study (as explained in the attached booklet) is entirely forbidden according to the great teacher, the Rambam, in his Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Avodah Zarah chapter two; its prohibition is a Torah prohibition based on the well-known ruling that Christians are idol worshippers. From this it is understood that not only does this study harm Jewish children, but it is also a matter of the laws of idolatry, where even their secondary aspects are extremely severe—how much more so an actual prohibition.
B. From what was said above, it follows immediately that one is obligated according to halachah to take legal action regarding this and to do everything possible through all legal avenues to annul this decree. Certainly, when the situation is explained truthfully and with necessary strength, the argument will be accepted—since the matter touches upon the religious feeling and steadfast faith of our people Bnei Yisrael, for which they have given their lives throughout all generations—until all nations of the world, especially enlightened nations in democratic countries, have recognized that Jews must not be forced to transgress their religion G‑d forbid or even be pressured or hindered in observing their faith.
Because of how obvious this matter is and for brevity's sake relative to its importance, I will suffice with these few lines.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that any form of general religious education containing idolatrous elements is strictly forbidden by Torah law and must be actively opposed through legal means. Protecting Jewish children's spiritual integrity takes precedence over compliance with such governmental mandates.
