B"H, 16 Adar, 5726. Brooklyn, NY. – The year of Shevi'is, the year of Shemittah.

The Avrech whose work is the work of Heaven... may he live.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

I hereby acknowledge receipt of your letter. As we stand just after the days of Purim—days of light, joy, gladness, and honor—the pan will be read at the holy Tziyun. With blessing.

You wrote that many concepts in Chassidus are new to you—everyone passes through this "stage." Ultimately, this stimulates interest; as our Sages say (and interpret), "they should be as new in your eyes." It is obvious and forbidden to say that the matter is foreign to you—for every day we bless 'Who has given us His Torah,' and it is one complete Torah.

The year of Shemittah: Among Haman's claims was that their laws are different—that they observe Shevi'is (Targum Sheni. Aggadat Esther).

The day after Purim: Note from Megillah (2a) that both the thirteenth and fifteenth have a special connection to Purim regarding 'veLo Ya'avor' (one could say that after this there is no longer 'veLo Ya'avor,' for its prohibition is similar to 'bal tosif,' which applies only in its time. However, see Mordechai at the beginning of Megillah and Bigdei Yesha there). According to Yerushalmi (there), the entire month is included in 'veLo Ya'avor' (and it can be said—not after this. Based on this, Yerushalmi's language is easily understood: The whole month is valid for reading Megillah—what is the reason? 'And the month which was turned...' Rabbi Chelbo said: Only until the fifteenth... and 'veLo Ya'avor'—it does not refer back to 'the whole month is valid...' (for it brings proof from verses), but rather Ariya who imposed upon it—the prohibition of 'veLo Ya'avor.' This is not the place for further discussion). Additionally, on the sixteenth—when the fifteenth falls on Shabbos—the walled cities make their feast on the sixteenth (Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim 688:6).

Summary

When learning Chassidus feels unfamiliar or challenging, remember that every person faces such moments. The Rebbe teaches that perseverance leads to deeper connection and understanding; Torah remains ever-new for each Jew who engages with it sincerely.
