Regarding the annual gathering of the "Netzivei HaYeshivah" Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch in Montreal, may Hashem be upon them for life—greetings and blessings!

This year's annual gathering comes soon after the yahrzeit of the Rebbe Rashab, of blessed memory, founder of the first Tomchei Temimim yeshiva in Lubavitch, together with his son, my father-in-law the Rebbe, of blessed memory—the co-founder and active director of the yeshiva in Lubavitch and founder of the Lubavitcher yeshiva in Montreal.

One of the instructions from the baal ha-hilula (the one whose yahrzeit is being commemorated), which is especially important for our times, is: In our present era, one cannot—and must not—make calculations about what can or cannot be accomplished; rather, whatever requires improvement must be addressed immediately with strenuous effort—and then Hashem helps. (Kuntres U'Maayan p. 22)

This directive is particularly relevant to education. If years ago it was still possible to consider in certain responsible circles what could or could not be demanded from the new generation and how to "draw them closer," now it is absolutely clear that the only approach to education is to base it firmly on Torah and mitzvos—without compromise or dilution—with a decisive resolve that one must and will act with strenuous effort. Then one is assured that with G‑d's help it will be accomplished in full measure.

Especially since our generation does not shy away from a challenge and is always more ready to accept complete truth than a half-truth or a quarter-truth. This is also the approach of Tomchei Temimim—the name itself points to Toras Hashem Temimah (the perfect Torah of G‑d), both nigleh (revealed) Torah and pnimiyus haTorah (inner dimension), Toras HaChassidus—it is one and whole; and its students are temimim—whole in their outlook and whole in their conduct.

The success, with Hashem's help, of the Lubavitcher Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim in Montreal has confirmed how correct this approach is. It is hoped that the esteemed supporters who have enabled this consistent growth—in quantity and quality—of the yeshiva over all these years will continue to exert all efforts to maintain and further expand all activities of the yeshiva.

The merit of supporting Torah and spreading Torah and mitzvos will surely stand by everyone—each individual—for everything needed materially and spiritually.
