בנועם קבלתי מכתבם ר"פ מדו"ח דפעולותיהם בקדש, בענין הצדקה, מצותו של הקדוש ב"ה, ובמעלה הגדולה אשר בה, הוא ענין גמילות חסדים.
ויהי רצון אשר מתאים לפתיחת רבנו הזקן בס' תורה אור: צדקה תרומם גוי, הגבהת והעלאת המדות (ובמק"א מבואר שהוא גם העלאת בחי' נה"י וגם דבחי' המוחין),
יהי' כן בכל עניני המשתתפים בפעולת החברה וההנהלה בראשם - שליט"א,
ואין מקרא יוצא מידי פשוטו: תרומם גוי, גוי אחד בארץ הם בני ישראל,
שהרי הצדקה מביאה גאולה הפרטית של נותן הצדקה ומקרבת גאולה הכללית של כל בני ישראל,
אשר גאולה הפרטית כפשוטה, היא ביטול כל ענינים המבלבלים מעבודת ה' בשמחה ובטוב לבב,
היינו שיהיו כל חפצי איש ואיש בשלשת הסוגים בני חיי ומזוני כפשוטם - כדרוש, ועד - בשלימות, ועד - באופן דרויחא,
וכמו שהוא ביחוד בענין הצדקה, כמו שנאמר בה: רחבה מצותך מאד, כפירוש רבנו הזקן.
והרי השנה שנת סגולה, שנת המאה וחמשים להסתלקות הילולא שלו.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
With pleasure I received your letter along with a report of your sacred activities regarding charity—the mitzvah of the Holy One, blessed be He—and the great virtue found in it, which is the matter of Gmilus Chassadim (acts of kindness).
May it be G‑d's will that in accordance with the opening words of our master the Alter Rebbe in Torah Or: Tzedakah Teromem Goy ("Charity elevates a nation"), meaning the uplifting and elevation of one's middos (and elsewhere it is explained that this also refers to elevating both the levels of Nehi and even Mochin), so should it be in all matters concerning those participating in the society's activities and its leadership at their head—may they live long. And as is always true: Teromem Goy—Goy Echad Ba'Aretz ("a unique nation on earth") refers to Bnei Yisrael—for charity brings about personal redemption for its giver and hastens the general redemption for all Jews.
This personal redemption in its literal sense is the removal of all things that disturb one's service of Hashem with joy and gladness of heart; that is, each person's desires in all three categories—children, life, and sustenance—should be fulfilled literally as needed, even to completeness and abundance. This is especially true regarding charity, as it says about it: Rachavah Mitzvosecha Me'od ("Your commandment is exceedingly broad"), as explained by our master the Alter Rebbe.
This year is a special year—the one hundred fiftieth anniversary since his passing (yahrzeit). Participation enclosed.
With blessings for success in your sacred work and in accordance with our Sages' instruction: "Gmilus Chassadim even for the wealthy," so that the promise will be fulfilled: "There shall be no needy among you because Hashem will bless you," and Bnei Yisrael will fulfill the will of their Creator.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that charity not only uplifts character traits but also brings both individual and collective redemption. He encourages ongoing acts of kindness with blessings for abundance in all areas—children, life, and sustenance—and fulfillment of G‑d's promise for blessing.
