מיט צופרידנהייט האב איך באקומען אייער בריף פון ערב ראש חודש אלול הוא חודש הרחמים, אין וועלכן איר שרייבט די גוטע בשורה, אז דעם קומענדן שבת פ' שופטים, ווערט איר א בן ששים.
השם יתברך זאל העלפן, אז לאריכות ימים ושנים טובות, זאלט איר אנזאגן גוטע בשורות וועגן זיך און וועגן יעדערן פון אייער משפחה שי', גוטע בשורות אין די ענינים הגשמים און אויך גוטע בשורות אין די ענינים הרוחנים,
און ווי באוואוסט דער ווארט פון בעל שם טוב, אויף דעם פסוק כי תראה חמור וגו' עזוב תעזוב עמו, אז אויך מיט ענינים הגשמים קען מען און מען דארף דינען השם יתברך. און עבודת השם דארף זיין דוקא בשמחה, ובטוב לבב (זע רמב"ם סוף הלכות לולב, און אין ספר התניא אין מערערע ערטער, ווי אנגעצייכנט אין תוכן ענינים בסופו).
און בפרט אז די השגחה עליונה האט אייך מצליח געווען און מזכה געווען, מיט דער השתדלות און ארבעט אויף צו שטארקן און אויברייטערן דעם, בית ליובאוויטש" אשר בק"ק לונדון, וואס זיכער, אזוי ווי אין אלע גוטע זאכן, וועט איר גיין מחיל אל חיל ומעלין בקודש, וועט דאס נאך צוגעבן אין די ברוכת פון השם יתברך והצלחתו, אייך און יעדערן פון דער משפחה,
ובזה כמובן וגם פשוט הברכה פון דעם קאפיטל תהלים וואס איר וועט אנהויבן זאגן: שנותיו כמו דור ודור וגו' כן אזמרה שמך לעד וגו'.

With pleasure I received your letter from the eve of Rosh Chodesh Elul, which is the month of mercy, in which you write the good news that this coming Shabbat Parshas Shoftim you will turn sixty years old.
May Hashem Yisbarech help that for many good years you should bring good tidings about yourself and about every member of your family, good news in material matters and also good news in spiritual matters. As is well known from the Baal Shem Tov's teaching on the verse Ki Tireh Chamor... Azov Ta'azov Imo ("If you see a donkey... you shall surely help with him")—that even with material matters one can and must serve Hashem Yisbarech.
And serving Hashem must be specifically with joy and gladness of heart (see Rambam at the end of Hilchos Lulav, and in Sefer HaTanya in several places as indicated in the table of contents at its end).
Especially since Divine Providence has made you successful and meritorious through your efforts and work to strengthen and expand the "Beis Lubavitch" in the holy community of London. Surely, as with all good things, you will go from strength to strength and ascend in holiness; this will further add to Hashem Yisbarech's blessings and success for you and every member of your family.
And it is obvious and simple—the blessing from the chapter of Tehillim that you will begin to recite: Shenotav Kemo Dor VaDor... Ken Azamrah Shimcha Le'ad... ("His years are like generation after generation... so I will sing praise to Your Name forever...").
With blessings for only good news in all the above, and for a good inscription and sealing for him and for each member of his household for a good year materially and spiritually,
