במענה על מכתבו מוא"ו אלול:
א) שמחתי לשמוע אשר כבר ניגש בפו"מ לעבודתו בקודש בתור שד"ר. וידועה ההנהגה בזה (ובכל עניני דקדושה, שהם אתדל"ת לההנהגה שלמעלה, מדה כנגד מדה), שבכל יום ויום צ"ל מוספת ועליונה יותר מיום (ג"כ ל' גילוי) שלפניו (אגה"ק סי"ד). וא"כ הוא בכל הדורות, הרי עאכ"ו בדרא דעקבתא דמשיחא, שצריך להפוך זה שאין לך יום שקללתו מרובה מחבירו (סוטה מט, ב) לטוב הנראה והנגלה.
ב) בענין אופן קירוב בהכנ"ס - הנה נשתנה עתה מהות ואיכות קהל בנ"י בפאריז, ממה שהי' בעת שהייתי דר שמה. וזהו דבר התלוי בשינוי הזמנים, וא"א לי לחוות דעת מכאן בזה. אבל, בכלל, הרי ידוע כבר למדי שם ליובאוויטש ונשיאו שליט"א. ואנ"ש שי' מכירים ג"כ מהות מנהיגי ביהכנ"ס כאו"א בפרט. ועל אתר ימצאו הדרך המתאימה לכאו"א. ובלבד שיניחו המ"ש מן הצד ויחזיקו בפעולה ועשי' - גאר בפשטות.
ג) בענין שיתנו מעות נפנה במחנו לעניני המל"ח שם -אין תנאים מתאימים בשביל המל"ח עתה.
ד) מוסג"פ הקונט' לח"י אלול שזה עתה הו"ל, ובל"ס יזכה בו את הרבים.

In response to your letter from the sixth of Elul:
a) I was glad to hear that you have already begun your holy work as a shadar in practice. It is well known that in this (and all matters of holiness—which are an awakening from below corresponding to the conduct from Above, measure for measure), every single day must be increased and elevated over the previous day (also meaning revelation), as explained in Iggeres HaKodesh section 14. If this is true in all generations, how much more so in the era of Ikvesa d'Meshicha (the footsteps of Mashiach), when we must transform the saying "there is no day whose curse is not greater than the previous one" (Sotah 49b) into visible and revealed good.
b) Regarding how to draw people closer in the synagogue: The nature and quality of the Jewish community in Paris has now changed from what it was when I lived there. This depends on changing times, and I cannot give an opinion about this from here. However, generally speaking, the name of Lubavitch and its leader shlita are already well known there. Our people also know well the nature of each synagogue leader individually. On site they will find the appropriate way for each one. The main thing is to set aside melancholy and focus on action—very simply.
c) Regarding giving funds collected locally for matters of melach (communal support): At present there are no suitable conditions for melach.
d) Enclosed is the kuntres for Chai Elul which has just been published; surely you will merit to share it with many.
