מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבן מי"ז כסלו, ויהי רצון שתבשרנה טוב בתוכנו.
והרי מתקרבים אנו לימי חנוכה, אשר כנוסח תפלת על הנסים, מסר הקב"ה טמאים ביד טהורים ורשעים ביד צדיקים, וזדים ביד עוסקי תורתך.
הנה כן הוא גם ביחס לכל אחד ואחת מבני ישראל בכל הזמנים ובכל המקומות, אשר באם כהוראת תורתנו תורת חיים עומדים במסירות נפש, מוסר הקב"ה את היצה"ר שבלב האדם שהוא טמא רשע זד ביד היצר הטוב הטהור צדיק ומשתוקק לתורה ומצות, ויכול כל אחד להדליק נר מצוה ותורה אור, בעצמו בנפש בביתו ובסביבתו.
ויהי רצון שיקוים כל האמור בכל אחת מהן.
בברכה לחנוכה שמח ולבשו"ט.

I acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 17th of Kislev, and may it be G‑d's will that you share good news among us.
We are approaching the days of Chanukah, when as stated in the Al HaNissim prayer, "the Holy One delivered the impure into the hands of the pure, the wicked into the hands of the righteous, and the wanton into the hands of those who occupy themselves with Your Torah." This is also true for every single Jew at all times and in all places: if one stands with self-sacrifice as our Torah of Life instructs us, then G‑d delivers one's evil inclination — which is impure, wicked, and wanton — into the hands of one's good inclination — which is pure, righteous, and yearns for Torah and mitzvos. Thus everyone can kindle a mitzvah candle and Torah light within themselves, their soul, their home, and their environment.
May it be G‑d's will that all this be fulfilled in each one of you.
Blessings for a joyful Chanukah and to hear good news.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that just as Chanukah celebrates purity overcoming impurity, so too can each person overcome their yetzer hara by following Torah with self-sacrifice. In doing so, we bring light to ourselves and those around us.
