Shalom u'Vrachah!
In response to your letter from Friday, in which you write about what you have experienced and conclude that you wish to return to the path of Judaism. Fortunate is your lot that you have decided on the true good—good both materially and spiritually—to live a life according to the guidance of our holy Torah, the Torah of life. You can be confident based on our Sages' teachings that even when a person sanctifies himself just a little from below, he is sanctified greatly from Above—especially when he increases his efforts in these areas.
Regarding what you wrote about those who mock and so forth: it is proper not to enter into any debate with them at all. Sometimes those who mock do so because they feel deep inside that their own conduct is not as it should be. After all, their fathers and forefathers for over three thousand five hundred years have walked in the path of Torah and mitzvos—only they have strayed from it. They sense—even if they do not always understand this intellectually—that their deviation was because they did not want to fight against their evil inclination. They try to cover up this feeling through laughter and ridicule. It is clearly seen that when one does not engage in debate and continues on the path of Torah and mitzvos without paying attention to the mockers, eventually even those who laugh and mock stop doing so and themselves draw closer step by step to Torah and its mitzvos—about which it is said: "And you shall live by them."
I hope you will meet often with the Chabad Youth Organization members whom you mention in your letter and participate in their gatherings; regarding such things it is said: "Each man will help his fellow."
Regarding your financial situation with debts: every weekday before Shacharis set aside some coins for tzedakah—and it is even better also before Minchah. Keep the practice of saying each day after Shacharis the daily portion of Tehillim as divided for the days of the month. It is also proper that your tefillin be checked to ensure they are kosher according to halachah.
With blessings for good news in all the above matters,
In the name of the Lubavitcher Rebbe shlita,
Mazkir
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that returning to Judaism brings true good in all areas. Ignore mockers—they often act out of inner conflict—and focus on positive action: join supportive communities, give charity daily, recite Tehillim regularly, and ensure mitzvah observance is proper.
