Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter from 31/21, in which you describe the various circumstances you and your husband have gone through and sum up that things have always been not good and even now are not good, etc., and from this your outlook on the future is understandable.

I am surprised at your conclusion to such a summary when you yourself write that from your entire family only a few remain and you are among them. You also write about various difficulties and illnesses that were experienced, also regarding your husband you write that things were not as expected, etc., yet he acted in certain matters, etc., and both of you have a home, etc. Looking into all this—what is happening not only outwardly but also within the home—how can it be that the overall conclusion is as you write?!

It is clear that one must pray to Hashem Yisbarach that things should be better and even better still, for He is the essence of goodness, and it is the nature of good to do good. But one must also not ignore the kindnesses of Hashem Yisbarach that have already been seen—especially as you write that there have been revealed kindnesses and open miracles.

I want to emphasize that I do not mean by this to say one should not look into what needs improvement or that nothing is lacking in the important matters mentioned above. I only wish to stress the good—and great good—that you and your husband have seen even with your physical eyes.

Another point here (which is no less important), explained in our holy Torah: The measure of blessings from Hakadosh Baruch Hu depends in some way on how a person receives them; conduct in harmony with this recognition increases the channel and vessels to receive His blessings in the near future and generally.

Among the most effective pieces of advice for increasing blessings from Hashem Yisbarach is to do a favor for another Jew—physically or spiritually. Just as everyone has an opportunity to give material charity (since everyone can participate), so too with doing spiritual favors; the more one adds in this area—not only does one fulfill a Torah commandment (Ve'Ahavta L'Rei'acha—"Love your fellow as yourself," which Rabbi Akiva says is a great principle in Torah) which itself increases Hashem's blessings—but it also brings inner satisfaction when seeing positive results from one's efforts. This directly and indirectly improves health and one's perspective on everything happening within oneself and around oneself. May it be Hashem's will that you share good news regarding all these matters.

Your husband's tefillin should be checked as well as the mezuzos in your home. You should maintain the beautiful custom of Jewish women—to give charity every time before lighting candles on Erev Shabbos and Erev Yom Tov.

With blessing, in the name of His Honor our Rebbe Shlita, Mazkir

Summary
