Shalom u'Vrachah!

In response to your letter from 12/1, I acknowledge receipt of your New Year blessing letter and your question—perhaps the letter was intended for another person with your name, since until now you have not corresponded here.

Indeed, you are correct in your words; nevertheless, since everything is by Divine Providence, may it be G‑d's will that the blessings be fulfilled among the blessings of all the Jewish people who wish each other well. As is known from the story of our Rebbe, the Alter Rebbe, author of Tanya and Shulchan Aruch: when our Father in Heaven sees the good relations and blessings Jews wish each other, He adds His own blessings beyond fulfilling those already given. This is like a father among humans whose closeness between his children brings him great pleasure and causes him to give even more gifts to those children.

I hope that since—as you wrote in your letter—"I ascended to Eretz Yisrael ten years ago," you certainly strive with all your ability and what depends on you that this be a true aliyah; that is, an ascent of the soul by drawing closer and closer to the purpose of aliyah—namely, Hashem who gives Torah and mitzvahs, Who is infinite and without limit. Through a lifestyle fitting His instruction in His Torah (the language of instruction), one ascends on a path leading toward Him. Even among all nations this land is called "the Holy Land" because of the Beis HaMikdash, its holy places, and sacred events that occurred there—and holiness as explained in Torah comes through living a life of Torah there.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that living in Eretz Yisrael should be accompanied by spiritual ascent through Torah observance. When Jews bless each other with sincerity, it draws down even greater blessings from Above.
