מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו מי"ח טבת, ונעם לי לקרות בו אשר למרות הקישוים השתתף גם השנה בהכנת התועדות י"ט כסלו גאולתנו ופדות נפשנו, וכבר ידוע שהנ"ל אף שלכאורה הוא גשמיות דההתועדות רואים בפועל ובמוחש שפועל ונוגע גם להרוחנית והרי אמרו רז"ל גדולה לגימה שמקרבת אין יוצא מידי פשוטו, ואף שהרחיקו ביותר רבותינו נשיאינו ענין לגימה יתירה הנקרא בלשון העולם שכרות והוללות, אבל לגימה בדרך התורה ובדרכי נועם החסידות אדרבה ואדרבה, ועקא שע"פ הידיעה שקבלתי מכבר וגם ממכתבו ניכר כן, לא השתדלו כדבעי שיהי' מספר האורחים בכמות ובאיכות כפי האפשרי והרי היום יום סגולה הוא, ולב ישראל ובפרט דמגזע אנ"ש, ער ביותר אז לתורת החסידות ולעניני החסידות, ויה"ר שעכ"פ לימי סגולה הבע"ל ישתדלו בהנ"ל ככל הדרוש והשי"ת יתן הצלחה מופלגה בזה, וביחוד שהרי המדובר אודות התועדות בכפר חב"ד אשר שם צוה ה' את הברכה חיים עד העולם.

I acknowledge receipt of your letter from the 18th of Teves, and I was pleased to read that despite the difficulties you also participated this year in preparing the Yud Tes Kislev farbrengen—our redemption and the redemption of our souls. It is already known that although this seems to be a physical aspect of the farbrengen, we see in practice and tangibly that it also affects and touches upon the spiritual. As our Sages said: Gedolah Legimah Shemekarevet ("Great is sharing food and drink, for it brings people closer")—and its simple meaning remains. Although our Rebbeim greatly distanced excessive drinking, which is called drunkenness and frivolity in common language, nevertheless, drinking in accordance with Torah and in the pleasant ways of Chassidus is not only permitted but even encouraged.
The difficulty is that, according to information I have received previously—and it is also apparent from your letter—there was not enough effort made so that the number of guests would be as great as possible both in quantity and quality. After all, today is an auspicious day, and the heart of a Jew—especially one descended from Anash—is particularly receptive then to Chassidus and its matters. May it be G‑d's will that at least for the upcoming auspicious days there will be proper effort regarding these matters as needed, and may Hashem grant outstanding success in this—especially since we are speaking about a farbrengen in Kfar Chabad where "there Hashem commanded the blessing: life forever."
