Shalom u'Vrachah!

... Dr. Shapira, whom you mention, as it appears is an expert in the field of gynecology. If he requires an examination in a proper manner after already having checked by taking a sample from the woman, and says that this is necessary for establishing medical procedures, there is a practical directive about this from my father-in-law, the Rebbe, who said: "One must devote oneself with self-sacrifice and do this." This was printed in Likkutei Sichos vol. 22 p. 301.

There is also a directive: see also above vol. 9 letter #2,568 and what is referenced in the notes there.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that when a medical expert deems a procedure necessary for health reasons, one should act with self-sacrifice and follow through according to halachic guidance as directed by the Previous Rebbe.
