Berachah v'Shalom!
Through Haraha"ch havavac"h iy"a nu"n oseik b'tzt"z Moreinu HaRav Shmuel Dovid haLevi Raytshik shadar, I received regards from you. Haraha"ch Raytshik also writes to me that your son is serving in the military.
It is surely unnecessary to point out to you, but it is important to awaken your son and explain to him about the observance of Torah and mitzvos in general—how essential it is for every Jew—and especially for one who is serving in the military.
In particular, it is absolutely necessary to be careful to put on Tefillin every weekday, at least for a few minutes during the day until sunset. This is a segulah (spiritual merit) for someone serving in the military to return home whole and healthy. We have heard this many times from my father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal (may the memory of the righteous be a blessing), and thank G‑d, all those who were in the military during the previous war and followed my father-in-law's instruction regarding putting on Tefillin returned home whole and healthy.
In general—when one fulfills Torah and mitzvos, one does not do a favor for Hashem Yisbarach; rather, it is truly for oneself, one's family, and one's entire environment.
I hope you will find suitable words to explain this to your son and also influence him—for his own benefit—and may Hashem help that it will come easily to you and that you will be able to inform me of good news regarding this matter.
