Shalom u'Vrachah!

I was pleased to receive regards from you through Haraha"g Haraha"ch Havavac"h iy"a num oseik b'tzt"z etc. Moreinu HaRav Yosef HaLevi Weinberg, and also to learn from him about your heartfelt participation and assistance to him in his mission.

It is certain that Hashem Yisbarach will repay you many times over in all matters that you and your family need. However, I am troubled to read in his letter that you are feeling downcast and discouraged, which surprises me greatly. When one gives tzedakah and supports the institutions of the Aibershter (the L‑rd), one becomes a partner with Hakadosh Baruch Hu (the Holy One Blessed Be He). What greater joy can there be than connecting with Hakadosh Baruch Hu? And with what greater confidence can one have trust that 'Kol mah d'avid Rachmana l'tav avid' (Whatever the Merciful One does is for good), since one is connected to Hakadosh Baruch Hu?

As the Alter Rebbe writes in Tanya, when a person gives tzedakah, it elevates also the remaining money and good that he has left. As the Alter Rebbe explains at length in Iggeres HaKodesh, through the mitzvah of tzedakah, Hakadosh Baruch Hu bestows goodness in material matters—health and other physical needs a person requires.

My father-in-law, the Rebbe, once said that a sign of health is when a person does not feel his limbs; when one starts feeling their head or heart, it is a sign something is not right (as hinted at in the verse—Melachim II 4:19: 'Vayomer el aviv roshi roshi v'gomer'—'He said to his father: My head! My head! etc.'). From this we also learn about the lowliness of arrogance: if one feels their virtues—even if they are real—the very fact he feels them shows he is not truly well. When one does not feel their spiritual virtues, it usually means he is spiritually healthy. Similarly regarding physical health: one should not dwell on their health status; naturally, one must be careful and follow doctors’ instructions but should not obsess over it—rather be confident that Hashem Who runs this great world will certainly also run his small world—the world of man—for good. And He will surely provide everything needed for health.

What is required from a person is to fulfill 'V'atem ha'dveikim b'Hashem Elokeichem' ('And you who cleave to Hashem your G‑d'), which refers to Torah and mitzvos. When this is kept in mind, one has health, no worries, and great success—not only spiritually but also materially such as business etc.

I hope to hear good news from you—that you have placed your worry about health upon the Ribono Shel Olam (Master of the Universe), and you take upon yourself concern (care) for Torah and mitzvos for yourself and your surroundings.

Summary

The Rebbe teaches that supporting tzedakah brings joy and partnership with G‑d. Trusting Divine Providence leads to both spiritual and material well-being; focus on Torah and mitzvos rather than anxieties about personal circumstances.
