בנועם שמעתי מאת בא כוחנו הרה"ח והרה"ג איש רב פעלים בתורה ומצוה כרכא דכולא בי', עוסק בצרכי ציבור באמונה רבה אשר ידיו רב לו בחיזוק התורה והיהדות וכו' מוהר"ר בנימין שי' גארדצקי, על אדות כת"ר ופעולותיו בהפצת התורה וחיזוק היהדות בקהלתו קדישא וסביבותי' אשר מצודתו פרוסה שם. וכבקשת כת"ר אשר מסר לי הנ"ל הזכרתי את שמו הוא וב"ב שיחיו בטוב בהיותי על ציון צדיק נשיאנו הוא כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ, ולכתיבה וחתימה טובה בכל המצטרך לכל אחד ואחת לפי עניניהם.
ובטח יברכם צדיק אשר כפי מאמר הזהר (ח"ג עא, ב) בתר דאתפטר אשתכח בהאי עלמא יתיר מבחיוהי, והשי"ת ימלא ברכות צדיק על מילואן בגשמיות וברוחניות.
ידוע מה שכתוב באגרת הקדש לבעל התניא (סימן כ"ז) לנחם בכפליים לתושי' את ה"נדכאים הנאנחים והנאנקים" (ראה באור התורה להצמח צדק פ' שמות ע' סד בענין נאקה), אשר הצדיק "שבק חי... לכל חי היא נפש כל חי הקשורה בנפשו... בכל אחד ואחד כפי בחינת התקשרותו באמת ואהבתו אהבת אמת הטהורה".
וביאר בספר ענין ההשתטחות ד"אף אותם שלא ידעו ולא הכירו בו בעודו בחיים חיותו רק שלמדו בספרים הקדושים שהניח ברכה אחריו ונהנים מאור זיו תורתו ומתחזקים על ידי זה בעבודת הוי'... בודאי גם המה נקראו תלמידיו... כי המה מאמינים בהצדיק ההוא ומקבלים ממנו אור תורתו... הענפים נמשכים לשרשן".
ופירש כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע הכ"מ במכתב, אשר "גודל התשוקה להתקשרות יכול להשביע רק כאשר ילמוד מאמרי החסידות שאומר הרב וכותב, כי בראיית פנים לבד לא סגי".
ובמכתב שני יפרט "השואל במה היא ההתקשרות שלו אלי מאחר שאין אני מכירו פנים... ההתקשרות האמתית היא ע"י לימוד התורה, כשהוא לומד המאמרי חסידות שלי, קורא את השיחות ומתחבר עם ידידי אנ"ש ותלמידי התמימים יחיו בלימודם והתוועדותם, ומקיים בקשתי באמירת תהלים ובשמירת זמני הלימודים, הנה בזה היא ההתקשרות".
וכאשר נלמד תורתו ושיחותיו ונלך בדרך זו הישרה אשר הורנו, הנה "כמים הפנים וכו' ורוח אייתי רוח ואמשיך רוח ורוחו עומדת בקרבנו ממש... שגם בזה העולם המעשה היום לעשותם אשתכח יתיר". ומה עד כאן עומד ומשמש אף להלן עומד ומשמש.
גדולה ביותר ההתקשרות על ידי השתתפות בעבודתו הקדושה של נשיאנו אשר תקותי חזקה אשר כת"ר יתן לנו עזרתו בכל האפשרי, ובהתאם לאשר דיבר יחד עם בא-כחנו הרה"ג והרה"ח וכו' מוהר"ר בנימין שי' גארדצקי, ומיני' ומיננא יתרבא שמא קדישא עילאה אכי"ר.
בחבילה בפני עצמה נשלח לו ספר התניא ואחדים מהקונטרסים של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ, ומטובו לאשר הקבלה.
החותם בברכת כתיבה וחתימה טובה ושלמא דמר ותורתו יסגי שיזכה לנהל עדתו על מי מנוחות במסילה העולה בית א-ל, מתוך מנוחה ובהרחבת הדעת, והמחכה לבשורות טובות ואין טוב אלא תורה ומצוה

כפי אשר סיפר לי הרה"ג והרה"ח וכו' מוהר"ר בנימין שי' גארדצקי הנה נמצאים אצלו כמה ספרים בתורת האמת אשר נתחברו על ידי אביו ואביו זקנו של כת"ר ובודאי יש בהם ממאור תורתנו הקדושה אשר יקרה היא מפנינים גו', ומאד אתענין שיהיו בהספרי' שלנו ואם יתנם תשורה לאוסף הספרים שלנו הרי תודתי נתונה לו בזה מראש.

Peace and blessing to Haraha"g vavac"h iy"a yoshev al medin, ish chai rav pe'alim, menahel edato b'meisharim, me'ir u'mazhir, apyei v'inbei shafir, ben neshek etc. Meir shlita Abuchatzeira, the rabbinic leader of the holy community of Midelt, may he live long in good years: May you have peace.
With pleasure I heard from our representative Haraha"ch veHaraha"g ish rav pe'alim baTorah u'mitzvah karka d'kula bei', who is greatly involved in communal needs with great faith and whose hands are strong in strengthening Torah and Judaism etc. Meir Binyamin Gardetsky, regarding your honor and your activities in spreading Torah and strengthening Judaism in your holy community and its surroundings where your influence is widespread.
As per your request which was conveyed to me by the above-mentioned individual, I mentioned your name and that of your family for good when I was at the resting place of our righteous Nasi, my father-in-law the Rebbe hk"m. May you be inscribed and sealed for good in all that is needed for each individual according to their needs.
Surely the tzaddik will bless you as it says in Zohar (III 71b): "After his passing he is found in this world more than during his lifetime," and may Hashem fulfill the blessings of the tzaddik fully both materially and spiritually.
It is known what is written in Iggeres HaKodesh by the Baal HaTanya (Epistle 27) to doubly comfort "the downtrodden who sigh and groan" (see Ohr HaTorah by tzt"z Parshas Shemos p. 64 regarding "groaning") that the tzaddik "leaves life... for every living being; she is the soul of every living being bound up with his soul... each one according to their true connection and pure love."
It is explained in seforim about visiting graves that "even those who did not know or recognize him during his lifetime but only studied from the holy books he left as a blessing after him and benefit from the light of his Torah and are strengthened thereby in serving Hashem... surely they too are called his students... because they believe in that tzaddik and receive from him the light of his Torah... branches are drawn to their root."
My father-in-law the Rebbe zatzal explained in a letter that "the great desire for connection can only be satisfied when one studies the chassidic discourses that the Rebbe says or writes; seeing him alone does not suffice." In another letter he details: "One who asks how he can be connected to me since I do not know him personally... true connection is through Torah study—when he learns my chassidic discourses, reads my talks, connects with my friends among Anash and Tmimim through their learning and gatherings, fulfills my request to say Tehillim and keep set times for study—this is connection."
When we study his Torah and talks and follow this straight path he taught us—then "as water reflects a face... spirit brings spirit and draws spirit; his spirit truly stands within us... even more so in this world of action today." Just as until now he stood and served so too afterwards he stands and serves.
The greatest connection comes through participating in our Nasi's holy work. I strongly hope you will assist us as much as possible according to what you discussed together with our representative Haraha"g veHaraha"ch etc. Meir Binyamin Gardetsky—and from him and from us may a great holy name be increased speedily.
In a separate package we are sending you a Tanya volume along with some booklets from my father-in-law the Rebbe hk"m; please confirm receipt.
I sign with blessings for inscription and sealing for good; may your peace increase along with your Torah. May you merit to lead your community beside tranquil waters on a path ascending toward Beis El with serenity and broad-mindedness. Awaiting good news—for there is no good but Torah and mitzvah.

Summary
The Rebbe teaches that true connection to a tzaddik continues after his passing through studying his teachings, joining with fellow chassidim, supporting communal Torah efforts, and following his guidance—thus drawing spiritual vitality into one's life even now.
