To the honorable members of the committee for supporting Merkaz L'Inyonei Chinuch, Machane Yisrael, and Kehot, the vavac"h iy"a those involved in tzt"z, and those connected to my father-in-law the Rebbe hk"m—which is above all—the L‑rd upon them may they live.

Shalom u'Vrachah!

With pleasure I read in your letter the news about your good activities in supporting the institutions Merkaz L'Inyonei Chinuch, Machane Yisrael, and Kehot. Surely, as with all matters of holiness, your actions and their results will continue to grow ever greater—until they become very great indeed (see in the maamar Chai Elul "Hashkifah" sec. 8 and in Likkutei Torah referenced there regarding the virtue of "very" on "me'odecha").

The time does not allow for lengthiness so I will suffice with a few lines—and this should be enough.

There are several ways one person can connect to another: a student to his teacher, a chassid to his Rebbe—and there are various levels within this. In general, connection is through following in his ways, which divides into three types from below upward according to the level of conduct of the one being connected to: (a) One who requests or commands others to act—the connection is through fulfilling this command or instruction; (b) One who acts together with others—the connection is through participating as well; (c) One who acts himself—the connection is that when given the opportunity he replaces him in action.

In my letter from Erev Rosh Chodesh Tammuz I came to arouse those chassidim connected or belonging to my father-in-law the Rebbe hk"m that now there is an opportunity for connection at the third level—a connection of their nefesh-ruach-neshamah-chayah-yechidah with our leader and head of our generation—my father-in-law the Rebbe hk"m.

It is self-understood that I do not mean G‑d forbid to diminish at all from the greatness of any other institutions of my father-in-law the Rebbe hk"m—and certainly not G‑d forbid regarding financial support. It is known that all matters of holiness complement each other and do not G‑d forbid detract from one another.

With blessings for a good inscription and sealing, success in your holy work—which itself is among the broadest vessels for drawing down and receiving all physical and spiritual good for each one according to their needs—and awaiting good news.

The Rebbe teaches that true connection to one's Rebbe comes in ascending levels: fulfilling instructions, partnering in action, and ultimately acting independently when empowered. All holy efforts strengthen each other; striving for deeper connection brings both spiritual and material blessings.
