אין ענטפער אויף אייער שרייבן פון ח' סיון און ב' בהעלותך - מיין ענפטער האט זיך פארהאלטן איבער די גרויסע טרדות און איבער ענינים פון י"ב-י"ג תמוז -
אין די קרייזן אין וועלכע איר געפינט זיך האט איר זייער גוטע געלעגענהייטן צו מאכן זיך בעזרת השם יתברך נוטצליך ערפילענדיק די שליחות צוליב וועלכער די השגחה העליונה האט אייך אהין געפירט.
מען דארף נאר ניט זיין בא זיך אראפגעפאלן ווען ס'דוכט זיך אז ס'איז קליין די צאל פון די וועלכע לאזן זיך באווירקן און אז אויך אויף די דאזיקע איז די ווירקונג שוואכער ווי עס ווילט זיך.
וואס עס באלאנגט דער כמות דארף מען געדיינקען אז יעדער יחיד איז א עולם מלא און ס'איז כדאי אז א גאנצע וועלט זאל זיך אפגעבן מיט ראטעווען אפילו איין איינציקן אידן בגשמיות און מכל שכן אין רוחניות.
אחוץ דעם די גוטע השפעה וועלכע ס'באקומט דער מקבל בלייבט ניט בא אים אליין, דען דירעקט אדער אומדירעקט ווירקט ער שפעטער לטובה אויך אויף אנדערע מענשען פון זיין איינגערן אדער ברייטערן קרייז. ווי יעדעס אבר איז א טייל פון גוף אלס גאנצעס איז א יחיד א טייל פון דעם גאנצענעם צבור.
און מיט דער גייסטיקער באלעבונג פון א יחיד ווערט ממילא געשטארקט דער וואהלזיין פון גאנצען צבור.
וואס אנבעלאנגט דער איכות, קען מען זיך גאר ניט פארשטעלן די גרויסקייט פון דער טובה וואס מען טוט מיט א מענשן ווען מ'העלפט אים זיך אויפהייבן אפילו נאר א ביסעלע העכער.
אויסער וואס ס'איז אומשעצבאר די ווערט פון טאן אפילו איין עבירה ווייניקער און מיט איין מצוה מערער, איז עבירה וואלט גורר געווען נאך אן עבירה ומצוה איז גורר מצוה, און מיט יעדער מצוה ווערט ער מעהר מסוגל צו פארשטיין ריכטיק א אמתן ווארט, און צו האבן דעם כח אראפצובריינגען דעם ווארט אין פועל. איין אידן אנטאן א יארמעלקע, א צווייטן תפילין, א דריטן ציצית, א פערטן מעורר זיין אויף אהבת רעים און מדות טובות, א פינפטן צו היטן טהרת המשפחה, א זעקסטן צו לערנען זיינע קינדער תורה א. א. וו.
איר טרעפט זיך זיכער אויך מיט אידן וועמען דער אויבערשטער האט געהאלפן אז זיי זאלן קענען ברייט אונטערשטיצן פינאנציעל די ארבעט פון מרכז לעניני חנוך און מחנה ישראל וועלכע כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע הכ"מ האט געגרינדעט און האט אויף זיי ארויפגעלייגט די ברייטע אויפגאבע פון טאן אלעס מעגליכע אויף צוריקצובריינגען אלע פארבאלנדזשעטע און שוואכע בכלל און יוגנט בפרט צו אידישקייט. מיט געבן דעם מרכז לעניני חנוך און מחנה ישראל די מעגליכקייט צום ביישפיל ארויסצוגעבן און פארשפרייטן וואס מער עניני דפוס אין פארשידענע שפראכן, ווערט מען א שותף אין טאן די געוואלדיקע רעטונגס ארבעט וואס דער מנדב אליין איז עס ניט אימשטאנד צו טאן, און פארשטייט זיך אז דער זכות מאכט אים מער ראוי אויף קענען לייכטער באקומען די גייסטיקע השפעה אין וועלכע ער נייטיקט זיך.
ס'איז שווער אויסצורעכענען אין א בריוו אלע פרטים פון אייערע מעגליכקייטן, צו מאכן זיך וואס מער נוצליך, אבער דער עיקר איז אז ווי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ פלעגט זאגן "מען דארף ווייניקער ריידן און מערער טאן".
דאס אלץ איז בנוגע אייער ארבעט מיט א צווייטן, עס איז אבער דא די ארבייט מיט זיך אליין וואס דא שטעלט זיך דער יצר הרע גאר געוואלדיק - אבער וועגן דעם א צווייטן מאל.

In response to your letter from 8 Sivan and 2 Beha'aloscha—my reply was delayed due to great preoccupations and matters related to 12–13 Tammuz.
In the circles in which you find yourself, you have very good opportunities—with the help of Hashem—to make yourself useful by fulfilling the mission for which Divine Providence has led you there. One must not become discouraged when it seems that the number of those who can be influenced is small or that even among them the impact is weaker than desired.
Regarding quantity, one must remember that every individual is an entire world, and it is worthwhile for an entire world to devote itself to saving even a single Jew physically—and how much more so spiritually. Besides this, the positive influence received by the recipient does not remain with him alone; directly or indirectly he later positively affects others within his closer or broader circle. Just as every limb is part of the whole body, so too is each individual part of the entire community. By uplifting one person spiritually, the welfare of the whole community is strengthened.
As for quality, one cannot imagine the greatness of the good accomplished when helping a person elevate himself even a little. Beyond this—since it is impossible to estimate the value of causing even one less transgression and one more mitzvah—a transgression would lead to another transgression, while a mitzvah leads to another mitzvah. With each mitzvah he becomes more capable of truly understanding a genuine word and having the strength to bring it into action.
One Jew may be encouraged to wear a yarmulke; another—tefillin; a third—tzitzis; a fourth—to awaken love for others and good character traits; a fifth—to observe family purity; a sixth—to teach his children Torah; and so on.
You surely also meet Jews whom Hashem has helped so they can generously support financially the work of Merkaz L'Inyanei Chinuch and Machne Israel—founded by my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe zatzal—who placed upon them the broad task of doing everything possible to bring back all those who have strayed or are weak in general and especially youth to Judaism. By giving Merkaz L'Inyanei Chinuch and Machne Israel greater ability—for example, publishing and distributing more printed materials in various languages—one becomes a partner in this tremendous work of salvation which no donor could accomplish alone. Of course, this merit makes him more worthy of easily receiving spiritual influence he needs.
It is difficult to enumerate in a letter all details of your opportunities for being as useful as possible. But most important—as my revered father-in-law used to say: "One should speak less and do more."
All this concerns your work with others; but there is also work with oneself where the yetzer hara presents strong challenges—but about this another time.
