Shalom u'Vrachah! [After 10 Iyar, 5710] Regarding what you noted in my letter from 10 Iyar about the tzt"z's explanation concerning Atzilus and Beriah-Yetzirah-Asiyah (Biya), that the delay is in Malchus of Atzilus and you question: if so, then the change occurs within Atzilus itself—that is, in the mashpia before it reaches the mekabel—the tzt"z compares this to literal pregnancy in Z"a and Nukva. Thus, Malchus of Atzilus here is discussed as it is the root of created beings, the beginning of Biya—that is, as a recipient. As the tzt"z says: "in Mem, source of Biya," and see Torah Or at the end of Parshas Terumah where Malchus is described as the source of Biya within Atzilus, etc.
You also ask what connection all this has to the matter of histalkus (passing). The connection is explained: on 10 Iyar three months were completed since the histalkus. Until the day of histalkus, my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe hk"m, bestowed influence openly; from histalkus onward he bestows influence in an even higher manner—meaning a new order begins in his influence. Since "the righteous are greater after their passing," their influence also becomes greater.
To clarify the results that came from the order until histalkus: just as physically after three months there should be recognition of a fetus—not later than around 10 Iyar there should be recognition (even though this is not yet birth) of results from my revered father-in-law's influences and conduct during his lifetime in this world.
I write "not later," because three months does not necessarily mean exactly three full months. Furthermore, sometimes the mashpia gives in such a way that nine full months are not needed for recognition by the mekabel (so three months for recognizing a fetus are also not required), because part of changing the influence to suit the recipient was already done by the mashpia himself.
Just as it is not necessary that every single thing given by a mashpia to a mekabel must be so deep that only after forty years does a student grasp his teacher's intent—though often it is so, it is not required that every word or teaching given by a teacher to a student must wait forty years. The same applies here.
This was printed in Likkutei Sichos there. In my letter from 10 Iyar: above sec. 598.
Summary
The letter explains how spiritual influence continues and even intensifies after a tzaddik's passing. Using analogies from pregnancy and teaching, it clarifies that results may become recognizable at different times depending on how much preparation was done by the giver.
