שלום וברכה!
בנועם שמעתי מחברכם האברך מר יצחק שי' גיטלזון, על דבר ביקורכם בארצות הברית, ועל ידו הנני לשלוח לכם ברכת "בואכם לשלום" ופ"ש ואיחולים טובים.
מובן מאליו, אשר אחת ממטרות הביקור בארה"ב או בשאר מדינות היא לרכוש כבוד ותהלה בעד הישוב בארצנו הקדושה, תבנה ותכונן, על ידי שישמשו דוגמא וסמל מהתפתחות החיים בארה"ק ת"ו וייצגו לפני כל את מיטב כחות עמנו, החשוב והנעלה אשר בו.
ומהו החשוב והנעלה אצלנו לעיני כל העמים?
מאז היות עם בני ישראל לגוי, זאת אומרת מזמן מתן תורתנו - אשר מאורע זה חוגגים אנחנו בחג השבועות הבא עלינו לטובה בימים הקרובים - הנה הי' עם בני ישראל המעט מכל העמים, המעט בכמות. אבל מזמן זה עצמו, שימש מופת ומורה דרך לתבל כולה באיכות, ברוחניות: הפצת רעיון אחדות האלקות, שמירת דרך ה' לעשות צדקה ומשפט וכו' וכו'.
מאז ועד עתה, בכל דור ודור קמים עלינו, אבל למרות כל זה - עם בני ישראל חי וקיים, בה בשעה אשר המתקוממים עליו, אשור ובבל יון ורומי, סופם היתה כלי' ולא נשאר מהם שריד ופליט.
ברור על פי הנ"ל כי סוד קיומו של עמנו אינו תלוי בכמות כי אם באיכות. לא בכח הזרוע כי אם בערכים הרוחניים הנצחיים אשר ספג עמנו אל קרבו ויהיו עמו לאחדים. ובלשון הכתוב: ואתם הדבקים בה' אלקיכם חיים כלכם ה י ו ם.
והוא הדין לתכלית ביקורכם בכל מקום בואכם. ברצותכם לייצג את האפייני בחיי היהודי והקו העקרי של עם ישראל, אשר בזה נבדל הוא, בזה הוא מצטיין וזוהי מעלתו, הנה צריכים להעלות על נס ולהדגיש את הכחות הרוחניים של עם ישראל, הגברתו את הצורה על החומר. וכפתגם נביאנו: לא בחיל ולא בכח כי אם ברוחי אמר ה' צבאות.
בברכת חג שמח והצלחה במילוי שליחותם האמיתית ותפקידם הנפשיי בעולם זה.

Shalom u'Vrachah!
With pleasure I heard from your colleague, the Avrech Mr. Yitzchak Gitlzon, about your visit to the United States, and through him I send you a blessing of "Welcome in peace" and regards and good wishes.
It is self-evident that one of the goals of your visit to the U.S. or other countries is to bring honor and glory for the settlement in our holy land—may it be rebuilt and established—by serving as an example and symbol of the development of life in Eretz HaKodesh (the Holy Land), representing before all others the best strengths of our people—the most important and elevated within it.
And what is considered important and elevated among us in the eyes of all nations? Since the Jewish people became a nation—that is, since Matan Torateinu (the giving of our Torah), which we celebrate on Shavuot in these coming days—the Jewish people have been few in number among all nations. But from that very time, they served as a model and guide for the entire world in quality—in spirituality: spreading the idea of Divine unity, keeping G‑d's way by doing righteousness and justice, etc.
From then until now, in every generation there are those who rise against us; but despite all this—the Jewish people live on and endure, while those who rose against them—Assyria, Babylon, Greece, Rome—ended in destruction with no remnant or survivor left from them.
It is clear from all this that our nation's secret of survival does not depend on quantity but on quality—not on physical might but on eternal spiritual values which our people have absorbed into their being and which have become united with them. In the words of Scripture: "Ve'atem ha'dvekim b'Hashem Elokeichem chayim kulchem hayom" (And you who cling to Hashem your G‑d are all alive today).
The same applies to your mission wherever you go. If you wish to represent what is characteristic in Jewish life—the main line of Israel—which distinguishes us and is our excellence—you must raise high and emphasize Israel's spiritual strengths: elevating form over matter. As our prophets say: "Lo vechayil velo vechoach ki im beruchi amar Hashem Tzevakot" (Not by might nor by power but by My spirit says Hashem Tzevakot).
With blessings for a joyous festival and success in fulfilling your true mission and spiritual role in this world.
