Prohibition Against Eating Maaser Sheni of Wine Outside Jerusalem

This letter discusses the prohibition against eating Maaser Sheni (second tithe) of wine outside Jerusalem, based on the verse in Devarim. One who eats it outside the holy city is liable for lashes, under the same conditions as with grain.

המצווה הקמ"ב

האזהרה שהזהרנו מלאכול מעשר שני של תירוש חוץ לירושלים.

והוא אמרו יתעלה: "לא תוכל לאכל בשעריך מעשר דגנך ותירשך" (דברים יב, יז) :

והאוכלו - לוקה.

ובאותו התנאי שנתבאר במעשר דגן.

The 142nd mitzvah

The prohibition in which we were warned not to eat the second tithe of wine outside of Yerushalayim.

This is as He, may He be exalted, said: "You may not eat within your gates the tithe of your grain and your wine" (Devarim 12:17).

One who eats it receives lashes.

This applies under the same conditions that were explained regarding the tithe of grain.
