מְקַדְּשִׁים וְאוֹכְלִים וְשׁוֹתִים בַּסּוּכָּה בֵּין בַּלַּיְלָה וּבֵין בַּיּוֹם.
הַקָּפוֹת בְּלֵיל שמע"צ.
הַפְטוֹרָה: וַיְהִי כְּכַלּוֹת - וּלְיִשְׂרָאֵל עַמּוֹ.
אֵין אוֹמְרִים הַיְהִי רָצוֹן בִּיצִיאָה מִן הַסּוּכָּה.
שמע"צ ור"ה מִשְׁתַּוִּים בְּכַמָּה עִנְיָנֵי כַּוָּנוֹת וְיִחוּדִים עֶלְיוֹנִים, אֶלָּא שבר"ה הֵם בְּעִנְיַן הָעֲלִיָ' ובשמע"צ הֵם בְּעִנְיַן הַהַמְשָׁכָה.
בר"ה הָעֲבוֹדָה בְּתַחֲנוּנִים בְּהַכְנָעָה וּבִמְרִירוּת עֲצוּמָה, ובשמע"צ הִיא בְּקַו הַשִּׂמְחָה.
Kaf-Beis Tishrei, Shemini Atzeres
Kiddush is made, and one eats and drinks in the sukkah, both at night and during the day.
Hakafos are held on the night of Shemini Atzeres.
Haftorah: "Vayehi kechalos" – "U'leYisroel amo."
"Yehi ratzon" is not said upon leaving the sukkah.
Shemini Atzeres and Rosh Hashanah are similar in several matters of kavanos and lofty unifications; however, on Rosh Hashanah they are in the mode of elevation, and on Shemini Atzeres they are in the mode of drawing down.
On Rosh Hashanah, the avodah is with supplication, submission, and intense bitterness, while on Shemini Atzeres it is in the mode of joy.
