כא תשרי, הושענא רבה
בְּתִקּוּן לֵיל הו"ר [=הוֹשַׁעְנָא רַבָּה] גַּם פַּרְשָׁה בְּרָכָה אוֹמְרִים רַק פ"א [=פַּעַם אַחַת] מִקְרָא - הָיוּ יְחִידִים שאאמו"ר [שֶׁאֲדוֹנִי אָבִי מוֹרִי וְרַבִּי] צִיוָּם לְאוֹמְרָהּ בהו"ר [=בְּוֹשַׁעֲנָע רַבָּה] עִם פירש"י וְאֵינָהּ הוֹרָאָה לְרַבִּים - וּבְעֶרֶב שִׂמְחַת תּוֹרָה אוֹמְרִים אוֹתָה שְׁנַיִם מִקְרָא וְאֶחָד תַּרְגּוּם.
קוֹדֶם הַלֵּל מְסִירִים שְׁתֵּי הַכְּרִיכוֹת שֶׁעַל הַלּוּלָב, וְנִשְׁאָרִים רַק הַג' הַמְּאַגְּדִים ג' הַמִּינִים יַחַד. בְּהוֹשַׁעֲנָא רַבָּה טוֹבְלִים פְּרוּסַת הַמּוֹצִיא בִּדְבַשׁ, אֲבָל לֹא בשמע"צ ושמח"ת.
Kaf-Alef Tishrei, Hoshanah Rabbah
In the tikkun for the night of Hoshanah Rabbah, Parshas Vezos Haberachah is also read, but only once in the original. There were individuals whom my father and teacher, the Rebbe, instructed to read it on Hoshanah Rabbah with Rashi’s commentary, but this is not a directive for the public. On the eve of Simchas Torah, it is read with shnayim mikra v’echad targum.
Before Hallel, two of the wrappings on the lulav are removed, leaving only the three that bind the three species together. On Hoshanah Rabbah, the piece of challah from hamotzi is dipped in honey, but not on Shemini Atzeres or Simchas Torah.
