Section 596 - Customs of Blowing the Shofar after Prayer — 2 Subsections

There are places where the custom is that after the prayer, they sound a great teruah without a tekiyah, in order to confuse the Satan.

1. There are places where the custom is that after the prayer, they sound a great teruah without a tekiyah, in order to confuse the Satan, so that he will not accuse after the prayer, when people go and eat and drink and rejoice, saying, "They are not afraid of the awe of the Day of Judgment."
There are also places where the custom is to blow thirty sounds again, because they are concerned that perhaps some of the congregation did not hear all the blasts properly and correctly, and they will fulfill their obligation by hearing these blasts.
And there are those who have the custom to blow one hundred sounds, meaning that they blow after the prayer to complete one hundred sounds together with the blasts of meyushav and me'umad.

2. But after all these sets of blasts have already been completed, it is not permitted to blow further without purpose, for blowing is forbidden on Yom Tov by rabbinic decree, and it was only permitted for a need.
For example, to give satisfaction to women, to blow for them.
And likewise, those who have the custom to blow after the prayer, since they require this blowing for their known reason, the Sages permitted it for them, since blowing the shofar is not a complete rabbinic prohibition, but rather weekday activity.
But to blow without purpose is a degradation of Yom Tov.
And even someone who will blow on the second day is forbidden to practice on the first day, for we know and are expert in the fixing of the month, and we know that the first day is holy and the second is weekday, and it turns out he is blowing blasts that are not needed for him on Yom Tov, but rather on a weekday.
And needless to say, one may not take the shofar out into the public domain to blow a blast that is not needed today, for he is carrying from domain to domain not for the need of Yom Tov.
But it is permitted to tell a minor to blow so that he may learn, whether he has reached the age of education or not, and he is permitted to blow all day, even after he has heard the blasts in the synagogue, for it is a mitzvah for adults to teach the minors and to train them in mitzvos.
