In response to your letter from 1/5, since you describe the event that occurred in the name of a friend, there is surely no need to explain the event itself or how it affects not only the three individuals involved, as you wrote, but also the children. For it is natural for sons and daughters to feel shaken by discord between their parents.
Furthermore, the impressions left by such an event can linger—no one knows if for weeks, months, or even longer—whereas the pleasure gained was only momentary and limited to two individuals.
On the other hand, every Jew is commanded to reject feelings of despair, for nothing stands in the way of teshuvah. The essence of teshuvah is complete regret from deep within for the past and a firm resolve for the future—including being careful to avoid anything that could G‑d forbid put those involved in such a test again. Every added precaution in this regard is praiseworthy.
And Hashem, Who sees into the heart and knows when teshuvah on these details is true and heartfelt—He is abundant in forgiveness, even to complete forgiveness as only He can grant. This includes lessening the pain and shame caused to all involved in this event and episode. As Scripture says: "Is Hashem's hand too short?" This is truly among your heart's wishes for good—to remove pain and so forth.
As explained in the works of Rambam—who was both a healer of body and soul—it is understood that any event requiring teshuvah should be used as an opportunity to increase goodness: by adding in doing what is good and upright both between man and G‑d and between man and his fellow. This follows how our Creator and Guide outlined it in His Torah called Toras Chaim—a guide for life.
I mean this literally: daily conduct according to Torah with even more precision than was needed before; as mentioned above—nothing stands before one's will.
With blessings for success in all of the above, and for good news regarding this matter.
Summary
The Rebbe teaches that no matter how difficult or painful a family conflict may be, despair has no place; sincere teshuvah brings healing. By increasing goodness and living according to Torah each day with greater care, one can transform hardship into blessing.
